Ammo is just insane - May 21, 2009, 08:52 PM

This ammo shortage is just now plain ridiculous. Unless you are a perpetual shotgun user, seeing ammo in NOVA is about as common as bumping into Obama at a local hamburger joint.

Almost fifty cents per round of average .223? That is .50 cal decent grade prices.

I have read about the military restrictions of selling spent brass - but there has to be a lot more to drive the prices and limits to this extreme.

On line appears the only way to go, expensive and you wait 6-8 weeks but it seems the only way to get more than a box of 20 rounds at a time. Is there any handgun or .223/7.62 ammo within 75 miles of DC?

For 223 I would try out Dicks. They usually have Federal at $120/200rds. MidwayUSA, Grafs, Wideners are pretty good for online prices. Locally, try Loudoun Guns in Leesburg. They have a pretty good selection of ammo, but unfortunately theres people that stalk the stores and wait for the days they get their shipments in.

Yes, it is insane. So I'll restate my post from another thread: If you're really that hard up for bullets, I have 1000 rounds of Remington UMC 9mm I'll sell for $400. Somebody might not want to pay that much now, but at some point they will. Think I also have about 400 rounds of Federal 5.56 laying around. I'll hang onto that until those bullets are literally worth their weight in gold.

if the day ever comes where 223 is worth its weight in gold, people are going to get desperate.

At least 5.45x39 is still relatively cheap, sometimes it pays to have a moderately rare caliber.

Can't yall reload shells DIY? One of my hunter buddies does something like that.

Whoever invested in ammo and green energy has it made, forget the ammo scalping!

my sig trashes the brass when it ejects it. Its too much of a pain to try and fix it. 308 isnt worth it yet for me to reload, but 338 LAPUA and BMG are top on the list. Maybe 50AE, but primers and powder.....
