Amsterdam - June 6, 2016, 02:31 PM

I'm going for 5 days at the end of August after Summit. United has some good prices right now at 600 trip. After upgrades etc it's 1300.

My friends suggested staying at hostels to meet people and party. I like that idea. Apart from bicycles and coffee shops, I don't know much else. I've done zero prep and basically have 3 months to figure everything out.

Has anyone here been? What did you do there?

I have been. Go to the Sex Museum, An Franks house. Also Heineken Amsterdam tour. Also best to drink the Heineken it taste like crap here but is really good there.

You can take the train from Schiphol to Amsterdam for cheap. We didn't buy first class tickets just go up to first class. Anyone says anything act like a stupid American.

Yeah I am old enough to know better. Thing is, I just don't care.

It's an awesome place.

If you get a car, be careful of bikes.

Sex Museum, Heineken, snag tix to an AJAX game if the timing works out, fine dining at &Samhoud Places, bitterballen and heineken otherwise

Also just wonder around the city and all the bridges and all the crazy alleyways. You can also use the public urinals.

I plan on doing this a lot. Mindless stare, mouth breathe.

The airfare at 600 is ok for me. It's nonstop from Dulles which is really close. I have a united credit card that gets me in the premier security line and access to the club for free drinks.

I plan on riding a bike or walking everywhere. No cars.

Has anyone had experience with hostels? My only concern is secure storage while I'm out doing shit. I use a pelican case for travel. Maybe I can just chain it chain it to the bed or something.

I 2nd everything above...I stayed in the museum corridor but it was a little further from the train station than I liked (commuting for work, sucked).

I didn't take the train from the airport as worked paid for a car, but overall public transportation is pretty awesome over there.

Canal tours are another option...just walk around, get lost, drink beer and have fun.

I would stay in a hotel. Crime rates of theft are very hi.

that's the plan! I don't plan on sitting around much.

my only concern about this trip is keeping my stuff secured while I'm out having fun.

Paging, Dutch.

There is a few places to go see and experience like the red light district and the Van Gough (?) museum. Did some of that stuff but we were there mainly to party. Some hash and lots of clubbing. Dutch people are pretty cool. Food prices are expensive and I found that most of the food was not my style so Me and my bud ended up at Turkish Kebob places most of the time. Just make sure you don't bring back anything that can be an issue regardless of how small. If your flight comes in direct from Amsterdam, US customs really goes to town on your luggage.
