Android. Man, I may have to jump ship - March 19, 2012, 09:17 AM

So I picked up a pair of Galaxy S2 skyrockets for my family and realized these things are awesome. Rooting is easy, a lot of paid apps for apple are free of android (I know ads), a lot more freedom. Better specs for in-class devices.

I'm peeping out the release of the S3. I haven't even thought about the iphone 5 since reading about it.

Any thoughts on other differences. Android OS is pretty new to me in terms of research.

Also any thoughts on the google streaming service that allows you to upload your own music and listen to anywhere?

There are significant downsides to the "Open" nature of android.

In the end, it's all about how much compatibility issues etc you are willing to put up with.

I will decide once I see solid info on the 5. We're jumping to a different carrier so our options will be wide open.

It all boils down to personal preference. Never ending argument. I have/use both on a daily basis and personally prefer Android (ICS specifically) to iOS.

If you want something pretty much "turn-key" ready; iOS is the way to go.

Simplicity - Apple

Open Source Flexibility - Android

I've been interested in trying out a Windows phone, no real desire to own one but I have yet to play with the OS.

Yeah, I know about the downsides to open source. I also know how apple IOS stays stable. Im waiting on the 5/s3 myself. Just was in awe about the stock OS of android compared to stock iOS.

Android ICS is a revelation, they finally seem to care what it actually looks like as well as the functionality.

The Google play music app is crazy... 20,000 songs stored for free. My 60 or so Gig collection was only 9000 songs or something. It works very similar to the Amazon music player, but with so much more room. It also stores and plays wma, Amazon only works with mp3's.
