Woman hit by Red Line train

By: Kytja Weir 03/23/11 3:01 PM

A woman was struck by a Red Line train on Wednesday afternoon, causing delays along the line.

The incident happened at 2:24 p.m. near the Rhode Island Avenue station when a train headed outbound toward Glenmont hit the woman, said Metro spokeswoman Angela Gates.

A woman was pulled from the tracks by D.C. Fire & EMS workers, and rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the fire service.

The woman had placed herself intentionally in the path of the train, according to the preliminary police reports. It is the latest suicide attempt on the system.

Trains are sharing a single track through the area, Gates said.

Stayed tuned for more updates.

Un-fucking believable, why do people try to commit suicide on metro rail? it's not like the trains go that fast at the stations. Geez. I bet she's going to survive this and feel even shittier than she did before.

What happened to slitting ones wrist and running a hot bath? what happened to jumping off a building (to a non-busy street)? what happened to a gun in the mouth? What happened to self hanging? Pill popping? riding off a clif? flying air france? f*cking South African hookers? swimming with sharks? etc?

Oh, and why always the Red Line?

Suicide; often a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Why the Red Line. The busiest line on the system and at a station that's in the middle of the system where they can't immediately single track around.

If you want to pancake yourself via metro, go do it at the end of the Orange Line or Blue Line - something that doesn't have as much traffic. Please have some consideration.

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.

- Nicolo Machiavelli 1469-1527

im the first to tell someone to man the fuck up and jump. but the notion that genuinely suicidal people will take others into consideration, beyond a point, is laughable

Fair enough, but if you don't throw yourself at the correct angle, you end up making contact with a non vital part of your body (legs etc) and then end up under the train....like this retard whore in this latest case. She must feel like a total failure if she comes to.

My grandfather was 74 when he put a gun to his head and ended his life in his bedroom. My grandmother was just 30 feet away in the family room watching TV.

Suicide doesn't discriminate....not by age, race, sex, color or religious beliefs.

Be thankful for what you have.

My coworker did this about 4 years ago. Severe depression got the best of her and no one helped. It is a sad thing to have to go through. Not real funny when it happens to someone that is close to you. RIP lady. Fell sorry for her family.
