Antique/vintage shopping, where do I go? - February 19, 2011, 05:20 PM

Tomm me and the wifey want to go out and get some furniture for the new place we just moved into. Instead of the usual Ikea I was wanting to find one of those many little antiques/crap/vintage/barnfind places that i've seen a lot of driving away from the metro area... However I have no idea if there are good/bad ones, so I am open to suggestions! I'm willing to drive an hour or so too if the place is worth it.

Please let me know if you have suggestions!

ALL MY HEROES ARE RUSSIAN...GO CAPS!

Well you see, Norm, it’s like this…A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.-Cliff Claven

Kensington, Maryland is renown in this region for their antique and cosignment shops.

Edit: They have a website
Kensington Maryland Antique Row, Antique Shopping, Antique Furniture, Accessories

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.

Fredrick Maryland has a metric shit ton of antique shops along with a couple antique malls. I was just up there today and actually bought a bunch of stuff for my wedding up there.

I seem to remember a few big places on 50 headed east around The Bay Bridge area. Not sure if they are still there.

Went to Kensington. They definitely have a bunch of shops there, but nothing interesting: the good stuff is extremely expansive, I don't think I saw one piece that was less than 500 dollars. I guess I need to get away from any metro area to get good deals!

There's cool metal stuff and furniture out in Lucketts, VA. Also Bella Villa Antique Furnishings Bella Villa Shabby Country Antiques Shop Aldie Virginia although they're kinda small. If you go to Bella Villa, make sure you stop by the little place next door and buy a bottle of wine. The owner, Wally, is awesome.

yeh, stay away from anywhere in dc or alexandria, they are all boutique antique shops and have astronomical prices.

another great trip for good antiques is the trip from here to bethany beach delaware. there are tons of antique shops and they are all mom and pop types, ive had some great finds up there, thats where i got my 1917 anvil for my beach house
