Any Scooter riders out there? - October 1, 2014, 10:32 AM

I want a scooter. Not a <50 cc one but one you can ride w/o holding up traffic. I'm not talking about a highway bu one that can maintain at least 50 mph. There are name brand ones and then the Chinese ones. I just found out from my local dealer that even some of the Hondas and the Yamaha Zuma have Chinese powertrains. Looking for recommendations on units as well as where to buy. Thanks

I have owned several. I love riding scooters. What are you looking to spend and what are you looking to do with it?

p.s. Don't buy a chinese one. Spend the money and get something decent. People tend to give scooters away if you shop hard enough. You can spend $3600 on a new Zuma 125 or you can buy a 5 year old Majesty 400 that is pretty much brand new because some old codger bought it and seldom rode it.

Less than $2k. My buddy has a couple of Chinese ones that he's had for 10 years. He's had to clean or replace the carbs but he gets them from Amazon. Like I posted, the Zuma uses a Chinese/Taiwanese powertrain as do the 150 and below Hondas. Twigg has a used Zuma 125 and a Honda 150 and they want close to $3k for each of them. Another problem is that the closest Kymco dealer is an hour away.

3 hours by scooter. You could probably find a decent scooter for less than 2k. I would still go for an old honda reflex 250 for that money. You can still ride them on the highway if you had to.

I had a Genuine Roughhouse a few years back. The 50cc will do 60 mph on a flat road. Great scooters, and a US company. They feature Minarelli engine.

You might be able to find a used Rattler 125.

Love my Zuma 125. Does an easy 50mph with me on it. That's saying something.
Paid less than 2 k for it.
It's an 09 with 1700 miles

I've got a moped that probably does 50-55. You can also hit 10ft drops with it, drive up stairs, and wheelie over pretty much anything. In other words, it's going to get me into way more trouble than any motorcycle I've ever had

I have a Honda Elite 110. It's a pretty damn good scooter... I got it as my pitbike, but every now and again, I run out to the store or whatever on it... It's hilarious that people tend to drive pretty aggressively to try to get ahead of me at stop lights, probably because they think I'm going to hold them up, but then when I take off from a light and do 50+ mph, and pass them back, I giggle like an idiot...

I had a Tmax 500 with an aftermarket variator and full akrapovic. I ran down some fairly good riders on high end sportbikes with it. Also a giggle fest.
