Anyone else have Couchitis? - July 9, 2009, 02:13 PM

The condition of dozing off into a light or sometimes deep and restful sleep while attempting to watch a movie or tv show...regardless of your interest level in said show.(i may or may not have quasi created this definition)

It drives my wife CRAZY for whatever reason. It could be a show or movie that i love and never seen before and i can still be a victim. I typically go to sleep around 10ish and get up for work around 5;10 so i dont think it's due to lack of sleep. Typically it's later in the day after 7ish..but it can happen mid day as well(i just typically am not on the couch till later!)

I've also had this happen while playing PS3.

Not sure why it drives the wife crazy but it does! My dad used to do the same thing, but he did have sleep apnea.

Is it a guy only thing? Do any females have this issue too?

I am very concerned.

..not rly.

I believe i can see the future;
because everyday i repeat the
same routine.

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which you have one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while you sleep.
Breathing pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes. They often occur 5 to 30 times or more an hour. Typically, normal breathing then starts again, sometimes with a loud snort or choking sound.
Sleep apnea usually is a chronic (ongoing) condition that disrupts your sleep 3 or more nights each week. You often move out of deep sleep and into light sleep when your breathing pauses or becomes shallow.
This results in poor sleep quality that makes you tired during the day. Sleep apnea is one of the leading causes of excessive daytime sleepiness.

I.E. You're not getting enough REAL sleep

Nah you don't got narcolepsy. Everyone falls asleep watching tv or movies...its a stationary activity and unlike reading a book, you don't have to exert any effort to watch a screen. I do it all the time especially if I'm lying down watching stuff. Up your caffeince intake and you should be good.

haha saw this on the history channel or something about anatomy, but the jolt ur body does when ur dozing off...iirc it has something to do with the brain sending electrical current in an attempt to keep the body awake...it was compared to a defibulator (sp)

.........or maybe i was dozing off while watching something and that's what i heard
