Anyone Here With MKIII Range Rover - Button Question - January 20, 2010, 02:50 PM

My friend copped a fully loaded 09 Range Rover the other night. 18K miles, $60K out the door. Dealer just wanted it off the lot

We played around with it all night - checking out functions/features (hooked up the Wii to the rear seat TV's ) but there was one button we couldn't find in the manual or even figure out what the hell it does.
The dealer didn't know either.

It's one of the buttons on the headliner. Long black button, the one closest to the drivers side and directly across from the moonroof slider switch on the opposite side.

On it, there's an icon of the truck with what looks like the undercarriage BOLDED and an arrow under it pointing DOWN. There also looks to be an LED inside the button that's supposed to light up.

We thought it was maybe a manual deployment button for the automatic sidesill steps that come out from under the car when you open the door, but nope. Not even the manual references it - and I check the online Land Rover manuals as well. Nothing!
It's definitely an "official" OEM button and not just an aftermarket add-on.

We sat in the driveway for a half hour trying to find out what the hell it does.

It could be an oil slick button.

Maybe it is a ride height button of some sort.

There's only one solution to this...

Push it! See what happens.

I know some of these things have adjustable ride height. I'm guessing that's what it is. It'll probably only work when the vehicle is running.

I don't think the adjustable ride height button would be up in the dome control center..

That's what we thought at first, but the adjustable ride height controls are on the lower center console next to the terrain selector knob.

We pushed the hell out of it and nothing happened - it's an icon of the truck with the bottom bolded and an arrow under it pointing DOWN.

I'm guessing but the last Rover I drove automatically lowered when in park and the door opened.
Maybe that button enables the system?

I have the 06 and we don't have that button on ours. Mine has a telephone speaker there I think. But the image you described is usually for lowering the car. I know the actual button is on the center counsel by the ebrake but once you lower the car with the center counsel try pushing it to lock it in place.

Your friend got a decent price. The 09s took a real hit with the 2010s that came out. They have the new 5.0 liter LR engines in the 2010s. The regular version puts out 375hp (up 75) and the supercharged is putting out 510hp (up 110) compared to the previous 06-09 models. I drove the supercharged hse sport last night and was amazed at how fast that thing is and how well it handles. Its got great brakes as well. They were asking around 75 otd. However the new Range Rovers no longer come with the 4 year 50K mile service

Ok, will look into that.
I do remember the manual saying something holding the suspension in the lowest height setting and putting it "Crawl" mode as long as you kept the speed under 25mph.

Yeah, the price was sweet. I was surprised too because last year fully optioned the way his truck is, OTD was $100K!

But definitely didn't know the 2010's got so much of a HP bump! I better not mention this to him however no 4 yr / 50K service - on a Range - is no bueno.

I dunno man. From my vantage point, the truck seemed like it was worth every bit of $60K he paid. Nice supercharged engine. Appointed like a Rolls Royce on the inside. The ride was nice and tight and feedback excellent - definitely not loose, and sloppy / numb, overly boosted like many American / Japanese offerings.

And frankly, when it's time to go off road - outside of a H1 Hummer or Jeep Wrangler I can't think of a better and more capable truck than Range Rover.

The cross-linked air suspension in it is pretty trick stuff.
