Anyone work for VDOT? - April 2, 2009, 07:29 AM

Lets just say they left a construction barrier in the middle of the road and i hit it... on 495. Whats a guy to do? run into the 16 wheeler or take one on the chin with my honda. I'm not happy... and the guy at the reston office hung up on me and didnt pick up when i called again.

I had to call the state police... i'm still not thrilled. And i'm sure the state will just deny and tell me to pound sand.

the state is good at times when it comes to sht like this. I knew I guy that got four rims replaced because a crew didn't put up a bump sign when they were repaving a section of the road.

they were open... if they werent open i would have just tried to plow into the construction barriers to my left, the 16 wheelers and panel van to my right, or hit the brakes with a big pick up gaining on me. it was hit the barrier or cause a HUGE accident.

Keep pestering VDOT. they pay for repairs to vehicles who hit potholes because it's cheaper than getting sued. The problem is a VDOT worker didn't just leave the barrier in the middle of the road. I assume you mean one of those round barrels? It prolly blew or another car nudged it or something. The hard part is going to be proving fault with VDOT. Keep a level head and temper and call the

and tell them what happened. If you have to act like a lawyer, do it. Clearly the worker didn't attach the weight to the bottom of the barrel properly and it struck your vehicle, causing minor damage and you would like VDOT to repair any and all damage inflicted by the incident since fault is clearly with VDOT due to the negligence of the highway worker employed by VDOT directly or a subcontractor under direct contract by VDOT to perform contracted duties in a safe and diligent manner.

It was a white plastic barrier. Three horizontal bars with two legs. the van in front of me had just hit it or run it over when it came at me. Workers were on site, thats the sad part.

progressive says that i need to write a letter to this lady, send pics, get the estimate at their claim area with official stance of the insurance company, and then mail it off. they said VDOT will pay, and if they dont, to call them because they have made one of their lawyers aware and he is preparing to come after them.
