Arizona Signs Constitutional Concealed Carry Bill - April 16, 2010, 11:12 PM

[PDF]http://www.azgovernor.gov/dms/upload/PR_041610_StatementGovBrewer.pdf[/PDF]

Statement by Governor Jan Brewer

Phoenix – “The State of Arizona has long been the home to defenders of personal liberty and
the freedoms enshrined and protected by the Constitution of the United States and our State
Constitution. I believe strongly in the individual rights and responsibilities of a free society, and as
Governor I have pledged a solemn and important oath to protect and d More..efend the Constitution.
“Today I signed Senate Bill 1108, the constitutional carry bill. I believe this legislation not only
protects the Second Amendment rights of Arizona citizens, but restores those rights as well. I am
joined in support of this legislation by both Republican and Democratic members of the Arizona
legislature, and I laud the strong number of bipartisan supporters who join with me to defend the
rights of our citizens.”

Good news, the more the better!

Supposed to be taking my Utah concealed class in Richmond, VA tomorrow. But its turning into a busy weekend, will push it back to next month. The Utah permit is good in 35 states.

Hopefully Arizona will make 36.

As of April 14, 2010 Virginia Conceal Permit is recognized in 27 other states...Utah already recognizes Virginia Conceal Permit and vice versa...

27 is a pretty good number. Thanks for the info.

To be honest I'll probably never carry, but Id like to have the option to excercise it if I ever felt it was necessary.

I never understood why states made you jump through hoops to get a CCW. No felonies, licensed and registered firearms, pass a test including laws - you should be able to carry in your state no problem.

Well to play the devil's advocate here, I see no reason a person should need to carry concealed.

Point taken, my statement was ambiguous to my point. Let me rephrase.

In what scenario is a citizen better served by concealed carry vs. open carry?

In what scenario is a person better served with their money in their wallet instead of in their hand openly?

1)Whether or not I am carrying is not anyone's business.

2)Having a firearm openly displayed will loosen the bowels of liberals. No need to make others uncomfortable.

3)A Firearm is a valuable commodity, not point in advertising to thieves.

4)Having a firearm openly displayed makes the wearer a target in the event of being in an area where bad things are happening, ie. bank robbery, etc.

I think this is apples and oranges;
First, I am in no way concerned about the rate with which I can leverage my cash when I need to make a purchase.
In contrast the speed with which your firearm can be used is very critical in situations where it will be used.
Second, there is no incentive to carry my cash openly in my hand. I can list plenty of reasons not to, I can not think of a single benefit. Maybe you can?

Okay I get that. You feel that open carry will attract attention that you don't want.

Personally I would reason that open carry will be a deterrence to a different kind of attention that you also don't want. I'll go so far as to say the kind of attention you don't get while open carry is preferable to bad guys thinking you're an easy target.

Maybe I'm making my own apples to oranges analogy here;

Do you speed by marked police officers in plain view down the highway?

At work, I don't have a choice. I carry openly. Off work, I have the choice to carry openly or concealed. I carry concealed.

To me, the benefits of CC outweigh OC. Is weapon presentation quicker with open carry? Sure, marginally. However, I don't go anyplace I think I am going to be engaged in a quickdraw gunfight. If someone points a gun at me and I have my weapon holstered, then it is too late and it does not matter whether it is open or concealed, I am already behind the power curve.

Contrary to movies, real life just does not happen that way.

I'm not *that* much of an asshole that I think life is like the movies.

You've concluded that the attention of open carry is worse than the attention a (by all appearances) disarmed civilian receives. That's fine. I think the conclusion is wrong, but my opinion is just that, an opinion.

I do believe in and support your right to carry however you like. I would fight to defend your right to CC, I am just personally a proponent of OC vs CC.
