Anyone familiar with PGP or GnuPG?

Im trying to find out how to decrypt a file encrypted with the above without using any of the above.

My thoughts were to load the encryption key into a Windows CA and that should work. Any ideas?

You need to get some PGP software, load the private key that you need into said software, and decrypt. I'm pretty sure you can't just load the PGP key into a windows CA.

Windows CA will not work. There is a master PGP key that comes with each site installation that will allow you to decrypt files/folders/hard drives. Sucks that you only need to do it for one file. If you were talking the whole hard drive maybe be an easier route.

+1 you definitely need to load software, use the private key and passcode if set to decrypt. The windows CA is a totally different thing.

Ive done this for encrypting the file. Easy peasy no brainer. Its decrypting the file without using Gpg4win or any similar pgp software.

But lets assume on the decrypting computer, you cannot have pgp software. How can you decrypt the file(s) in question?

Then you do it on another computer

Put file on USB drive, take to a computer that can have pgp and decrypt then bring back to non gpg computer best way. Assuming it was encrypted for a good reason you shouldn't email it. I doubt there is an "online decrypter" and even if there was why would anyone trust that.

You cannot. That's like saying you want to open a powerpoint presentation without office.

You need the software (and private key) to decrypt it.

Cant do this. It has to be decrypted on a specific computer that cant have the software loaded.

Could I install the pgp software on a memory stick and execute it from the memory stick? Technically its not installed on the PC. I just dont know if it will run from a memory stick.

Ive run firefox from a memory stick. Dont know if PGP can be done in a similar manner.

You still need software installed to view it which is the whole point of my analogy.

Hfam, maybe you can install gpg4win on a memory stick. I don't know. Try downloading it and try. It's free.
