I't the Pepboy line of bikes, and yeah I know get a real bike... but for the price <$350 for my 8 year old.

Baja Motor Sports | Dirt Runner 70

I found one on CL for $350, don't think I could get a crf or similar for that price. Anyway just looking for honest advice on whether it's worth it or if I should move on?

I bought the 50cc DR50 four years ago. I even started a Yahoo group!
(Baja_Motorsports_Dirt_Runner : Baja Motorsports Dirt Bike Runner 50 49)

Wait for the Black Friday sale, the prices can't be beat- but you get what you pay for. The engine is a clone of an old Honda 50, made by Lifan in China. You can even swap parts. Sometimes you get a good one; the timing sprocket fell off (!) when the engine had only 80 miles on it, destroying the valves in the head. It's up in central Maine where I stay 2 weeks in the Summer on a lake, and just got around to fixing it this year. In the interim I bought my son a used KLX110 so it's not being used anyway except as a backup bike. But the price... $299. Insane cheap, that's what draws you in.

But let me tell you, when it was running it was the bomb. Decent suspension front and back, four speed semi-automatic. I had trouble keeping up on the trails with my antiquated '72 CL350 basket case scrambler, and on the back roads we needed to take for short stretches he had it up to 50 mph easy.

Get a CRF, that's my advice. If you look long enough you can usually come up with one for $500-$650. More parts and more people are familiar with them. As stated, you get what you pay for.

If not a CRF, get a bike from any of the other big names.

13 KTM 200 XC-W
15 KTM 350 XC-F

I might have a dirt bike problem.

^ +1, ^^ +1. If it does break, it's always in the middle of nowhere, so be prepared to hike. I'd advise you to stay away from them (if every one had troubles like mine did)... but others have had no problems. Are you feeling lucky?

noted, thanks guys that is what I was thinking, but sometimes the $$ makes you do stupid stuff. I'll keep trolling for a steal on a crf.
