Bally's Fitness Bankruptcy - March 13, 2009, 03:36 PM

Hi guys,

Bally's Fitness filed for bankruptcy protection back in 2007 as many have already known and things have been going worse. In any case they are near going belly up so if anyone is interested in jumping ship to Gold's Gym shoot me a pm. We just got the latest news today that Bally's filed a motion to the court to extend the time frame for accepting or rejecting leases for an additional 90 days, which the Judge did not grant, but did extend the matter to a March 24, 2009 hearing. Bally also requested an extension of time for filing their plan, which one would think they are having trouble financing in today's turmoil. A comment surfaced in the hearing that they may terminate as many as 300 of the 375 leases.

I'm joining the Golds by my work soon. I was a member of Ballys a few years ago.

..maybe i could score some cheap equipment due to them liquidating their stuff?

Then again, it is Bally's. I doubt they'd have a squat cage, barbells, bumper plates etc.

I believe i can see the future;
because everyday i repeat the
same routine.

They'll definitely have it but most likely (the actual boxes or clubs) will be sold off as is to one of the other bigger chains.

yikes, i like going to ballys (when i go). I had gold's for two years (through work for $16/month) and never used it and don't want to have to go back there. the Bally's I go to was just renovated and has a pool and TVs on the machines which gold's didn't. gold's is still cheaper than sport & health though.

damn, i actually like Bally's. Definitely has some faults and REALLY depends on which one u go to, but overall its a good gym chain. Plus I have the membership that I can go to any Bally's since I travel all over the DC & Bmore area, so its real convenient

I was a member of Bally's for about 7 years...really like the convenience of the locations around me. Plus, I was down to paying nothing...membership was paid off.

Then those friggin bastids closed both locations near me.

Good riddance.
