I feel your pain bro....no pun intended I love ink and I have an artist that does awesome work the only prob is he lives in Vegas.

JTG40 has a great guy
Boomchic has a few good artists that do bold color
GixB is working on a piece and the line work is off the fuckn hook

Dave Walsh up at Jinx does real good work but I think Jinx is a little on the high side. I know you get what you pay for so dont flame me for that comment. However there is high priced and good priced for the same work.

I got three from jinx and one from a high end shop in Cali. Jinx outdid "that shop" by a mile in each instance. They are a little more than other shops but its all worth it.

JTG and I share an artist.

GixB and I share an artist.

Nubbs has some STELLAR work

The only two posts that nailed the answer down.

Its the about how cool the shop is or who you know there....its the artist style and quailty being able to bring out the vision you both talked about.

Prices are depenedent on

A. If you try to lowball to begin with on a bullshit small piece (I love being in a shop listening to dumbasses try to haggle)
B. Bigger pieces + more seat time= lower hourly cost
C. Tip big in the begining of working with a new artist, your hourly rate drops....dont stop tipping big, yeah you still spend but hook ups keep coming for you AND your friends should they go with the same artist.

So very true! Boom has it right. I go to Carlisle, Pa for my work. As for James Marlowe, he is now working at Handmade Tattoo, in Manassas http://www.handmadetattoos.com/
