Capital on 606 is where I train. You should def stop in and jump into some sessions to check the school out. Class act and a good environment for us elder fellows.

I was getting fat and doing nothing until early last year. Got in there and I love it. Keeps my mind engaged and my body tighter than it was when I was in my 20s. Let me know if you decide to go in and jump in a class, I will make sure I am there to work with you.

This is me with Royce last winter. Rodrigo was just here this last weekend.

Im a purple belt. Been training for roughly 7.5 years. I train at Leo Dalla's in Woodbridge off of old Bridge road. He also has a school in Crystal City and in Fredricksburg. Both of the latter schools are in Sports and Health's.

What does it cost if one wanted to get started in training BJJ or Muy Thai at CJJ? I have been interested in trying it but if the costs are anywhere near crossfit, I will have to wait for another day. Let me know.

Thanks!

You would be best to call in and talk to Steve, but I believe they still run it the same way as when I signed up. Its based on classes, no matter what it is. 1st calss is X, second is 45 more or something like that. I know that they just came up with an unlimited family plan which is awesome. Call in, talk to the desk, dont even know what they charge new people now.

Lloyd Irvin in Camp Springs offers 30 days free trial - UNLIMITED classes.

That is a great way to see if it's for you and you really can't beat this offer. Way better than the 'sample class or two' offers. (plus the place is very good.)

He runs good schools, no one is bashing schools or systems here. Just sharing info. Capital gives the first month free too. You will need it to cover your Gi tho

That came out wrong... Didn't mean to bash at all... I have heard VERY good things about Capital and Dalla's. In fact, DC area is very lucky to have so many top quality BJJ schools around.

Crazy 88 BJJ in Elkridge. A Lloyd Irvin affiliate.

New at the BJJ but have studied Muay Thai, judo, Chin Na, and various forms of Kung Fu for the last 18 years.

Big Al does them. Not sure what his screen name on here is. He just won a fight up in Burlington.

No Gi doesn't have belts. I'm just saying. They are ranked (competition wise) as beginner, intermediate, and advanced. If you're a purple belt, you cant compete in beginner. Maybe intermediate and possibly advanced.

If you're a purple belt then you're a purple belt plain and simple.

10th Planet JJ began the nogi belt system under Eddie Bravo 6-7 years ago. Most large scale BJJ focused schools (not MMA focused) other than Gracie... at least that I've seen... have incorporated the same, including Mica Michado.

The skill sets for competing in each are very, very different. Slipping in a Gi is MUCH more complicated. Gi is all about fundamentals, IMO, and anyone getting into nogi should do some Gi work first.
