NEW YORK -- Walmart Stores (WMT) on Thursday announced an aggressive holiday plan that includes free shipping on the top 100 items and price cuts on 20,000 items, in a bid to win its share of holiday dollars.

Starting Friday, Walmart will start to match online prices such as Amazon.com's (AMZN) in its stores. Managers of half of its stores were already doing that, but now it's become an official policy.

"Being the price leader is an ongoing priority for us and a commitment to our business," said Doug McMillon, who took over as CEO in February. "And with every year, that is even more important during the holiday season."

He added that while he's encouraged by the sales increase at its Walmart stores, he's still not satisfied with the performance.

"We need to continue to improve the customer experience, both in our stores and online, to deliver stronger sales growth and strength our bottom line performance," McMillon said in a transcript of a prerecorded call to investors.

I went to Best Buy on Thanksgiving for a "door buster" deal. The line was around the front and halfway down the side of the building. Once we got in, we were told that the item a number of us were there to get (50" Panasonic TV - $200) wasn't available. If you wanted it, you needed to come to the store in the days prior and get a ticket/voucher. That's not in the mailer. Big waste of time/disappointment.

^^^Wow! That's total bullshit and false advertising, even bait and switch. I would demand a raincheck on the item or file a complaint with the state's Consumer Protection Division. Believe me, they respond.

Confront store manager, get video, post it online. Show the flyer where it's not mentioned. False advertising all the way.

I'm guessing that ad probly says "while supplies last"

Had to go to best buy on Weds (as well as black friday, twice) for a cable modem. Talk about shitty timing. Both days were actually really calm.

I noticed all the sales had already started when I was there weds. Picked up a monitor and laptop. yay
