BLIND WHINO SW Arts Club & Event Space (DC) :: Fundraiser‏ - July 26, 2013, 06:15 AM

Would like to give you a special 1st hand preview of a powerful project that our team has been working on since October 2012: Introducing the BLIND WHINO SW Arts Club Non-Profit Organization & Event Space in Southwest Washington DC!

[VIDEO] Imagination @ Work: https://vimeo.com/51659504

Nestled in the heart of Southwest Washington DC on the corner of H Street SW and Delaware Avenue, we are in process of restoring a once vacant building built in 1875 into an all new Arts Club & Community Center; but we need your HELP!

This old Friendship Baptist Church venue has been vacant for over 20 years after the congregation found a new home one block over. With the facility being visually stagnant and displeasing to the neighborhood residents, Partnering companies Art Whino & Suite Nation decided to bring some cultural enhancements to the corridor by integrating a few large scale art installations and community events to the building. Art Whino commissioned Atlanta based artist HENSE to produce a full building mural wrap around the entire perimeter of the venue; truly a one of a kind visual! Additionally, we produced a full mural wrap on the inside performance area; curated by Australian based artist MEGGS.

With over 20,000+ square feet of space, an outdoor patio and garden, our plan is to provide an Arts hub for our youth and provide community programming on a consistent basis, specifically to support multiple civic needs of the neighborhood when necessary. By us bringing this venue back to life, we strongly need the support of our immediate community and beyond.

We are seeking monetary donations of any amount to help fund the building restoration process and help build programs for our youth so every kid in Washington DC can experience this new breath of creativity and enhance and enrich their cultural palette. Your support will help rehabilitate this 138-year old building bringing it up to speed with general services such as fresh water, hear during the winter and air conditioning during the summer; mostly so we can use the venue for mufti-purposes during all seasons.

We are asking for your help to revive an abandoned area of Southwest DC and bring our community together on one accord by way of the Arts. We present to you the BLIND WHINO SW Arts Club Non Profit Organization.
