Buying an unlocked iphone (on AT&T) - June 14, 2013, 01:38 PM

So I have AT&T

I want to buy an iPhone 5

My contract is almost over for my previous phone

Is it as simple as buying the phone, installing my sim card, and activating it?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of getting a contract free phone on my current carrier?

If a new badass iphone comes out 6 months later, can I sell my iphone 5 and buy the new one without waiting an "upgrade" period?

The only disadvantage is the high initial cost. Just buy the phone, get a nano SIM from your provider and have them add it to your account. MAKE SURE YOUR PROVIDER HAS NANO SIMS. Provided the next badass phone comes unlocked, you can purchase it again with that high initial cost without waiting on any upgrade period. I travel a lot so its mandatory for me to have an unlocked phone.

Nice

Does anyone know if ATT tries to charge you a fee for upgrading if you have a contract free phone? or "activation" fees?

Also, since my contract is up

Advantage to ATT vs Verizon?

I dont remember any additional fees for swapping my ATT phone, but that was a year ago. Check the coverage for the areas youll be using the phone in and make sure the frequencies supported are correct for your phone. CDMA/GSM/LTE
