Byrd Stadium questions - August 3, 2014, 05:20 PM

I am taking my dad to the Terps Vs Buckeyes for his birthday this fall. Does anyone know if the seats are actual seats, benches with backs or benches without backs? If benches without backs, are stadium seats with backs allowed in?

Thinking of parking at the metro and taking the shuttle bus. Mom can't walk very far.

Any other tips?

Benches w/o backs and stadium seats are allowed. Where are your seats?

Advice? Go early and crash some tailgates. Are you Terp or OSU fans?

Buckeye fans here. We are row E, 1 or 2 sections over from the OSU seating section.

With mom and dad in their 70s, we probably won't be crashing any tailgate parties. Thanks for the idea.

We will have to pick up another stadium seat or 2.

A couple of quick pointers.
If you're taking Metro, get off at PG Plaza not College Park. PG Plaza is almost as close at the College Park station, but has significantly less traffic to and from UMD's campus - especially on game days since it takes the back way down Adelphi Rd.

Also, PG Plaza Mall & the Shops is across the street so there are plenty of places to eat before/after the game without getting fleeced by the local eateries.

Thanks Heist. I was planning on driving to College Park and then taking the shuttle to the stadium from there. Part of the issue is that are 6 of us, and our biggest vehicle only holds 5. I don't want to get our group separated. If you think the walk and driving in wouldn't be too bad, I could see about buying a couple of parking passes.

Parking at Byrd isn't horrendous, but it's not great either. The problem with UMD's locale is that it's not in some secluded college town - it's right in the middle of two major corridors (Rte 1 & Rte 19 that handle a great deal of regional traffic.

I anticipate this will be one of the most attended games since it's UMD's first year in the Big Ten and playing against perennial powerhouse Ohio State.

Getting a parking pass isn't going to help as they will stick you in a lot pretty far from the stadium. Just stick to your plan and go early. Leaving will suck.
