Chandra Levy Trial 9 years later. - October 25, 2010, 08:07 AM

I will admit that I jump on the Gary Condit is guilty bandwagon. I live in DC and every since I was a kid it's been well known about the um...latinos that attack and rape women in Rock Creek Park (even now
I should have thought about that.

I feel a little bad for Gary, even if he had a relationship with her (it takes 2 to tango). His career was burried, but more than that I feel bad for Chandra. Absolutly no reason for what he did to her.

Jury seated, trial set to start in Chandra Levy murder case

Washington (CNN) -- The trial of a man charged in the 2001 killing of Washington intern Chandra Levy begins Monday.
Authorities believe Ingmar Guandique attacked Levy, 24, as she jogged in a park and then killed her.
A jury for the trial was seated Friday. Prosecutors, defense attorneys and the judge picked a total of 12 women and four men -- four of whom are alternates -- to serve on the panel.
Levy's disappearance nine years ago received widespread publicity because of her alleged relationship with a sitting congressman.
The revelation contributed to the political downfall of California Democrat Gary Condit, who now is on the list of those who may be called to the witness stand.
Police said Condit was never a suspect in the case although he was questioned intensively as investigators tried to find Levy. She vanished at the end of her federal internship at the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
Her remains were found more than a year later in a wooded area of D.C.'s Rock Creek Park.

Guandique is a reputed member of the Salvadoran gang Mara Salvatrucha, authorities say. He was sentenced in 2002 for attacking two other women in the same park. Years later, he allegedly admitted to fellow inmates that he had killed Levy.
Defense attorneys have questioned the police investigation. Last week, they wondered about a second man named in a FBI fingerprint memo prosecutors had just disclosed to Guandique's counsel.
In that memo, both Guandique and the other man were cleared of any match in fingerprints lifted from a vehicle parked near the crime scene.
Guandique denies he committed the crime and there is no physical evidence linking him to it -- leaving prosecutors to base their case largely on his alleged jailhouse admission that he killed the young intern.

Shame. No winners here. Condit is forever tainted. MPDC got it all wrong for years chasing him down.
But they only have a jailhouse snitch to prosecute Guandique on. Good luck with that one.
