I wonder if there is an organization like the red cross that only helps americans. Now before you flame me, think about it. We are one of the most generous givers when disasters strike other countries yet when we have a disaster we often don't need a lot of help from abroad because weh va eit covered. What i would want is to donate money and KNOW that it is only used for american needs. I know it sounds bad but think about it before you go off on me.

I call it the Red ,white and Blue cross or the star spangled cross

A helo was about to land yesterday with supplies but was met at the landing zone with armed thugs trying to steal the supplies so the pilot decided it was not safe so left the area with the supplies.

I watch some of this on tv last night and it is a very bad situation down there. Our government drop the ball on this one, why is the question that needs to be asked. I believe we all know the answer. however the situation is what it is and we need to continue to pray, send money or listen to the situation and see what you can do to help if you can. I believe WPGC 95.5 are taking donations all day today over the phone, faxes and emails.

Other countries are sending helps over, but considering our own people (VA/MD/DC guards) are still not being able to get in because they need "written requests", I think FEMA is the one dropping the ball here. They just simply can't manage the resources available to them.

I heard on the radio that cops are turning in their badges saying, "it's not worth it ... getting shot". One individual asked an officer for help and the officer replied, "Go to Hell ... it's every man for himself".

DAYUM!

This is true.

28,000 National guard troops are on their way to restablish law and order. 4 looters have been shot already. One officer was shot in the face yesterday by looters.
They are taking hospital patients hostage and stealing the drugs.
They have broken into banks and jewelry stores.
Rape and Murder is abundant throughout the city and the SUperdome.
Health is of concern as there are several dead bodies and oil in the flooded waters of the city.
Helicopters evacuating people have been shot at by snipers hindering evacuations.
Helicopters that resupply the people there are doing stop and go's.
This looks like Somalia or Haiti a few years back. Not even remotely resmbling the U.S.

The mayor failed by getting his citizens out of the city and is now blaming the U.S. government. If he knew that 80% of the people do not have transportation he shouldve loaded them on buses before this instead of having all the buses destroyed by flood water just sitting there.

i have also noticed that people really are not talkign about it besides this thread. the comment i hear a lot form individuals is" its in a flood zone why would anyone move there" unfortunatelly part of me agrees with this too. we have had so many huricanes in florida that i think people just don't really care. its sad. some at my work send an email for collections, so far $10 un 3 days.

Also, the Red Cross is asking for Blood donations if you can't give financially. Just got to www.givelife.com to find out where a local blood drive may be taking place.

Saw this on myspace.com and I just called the police department myself....

For those of you who wish to give supplies instead of cash for the victims of Hurricane Katrina - we have confirmed with the First District police that 400 families will be coming to DC on Monday to stay in the Armory. They stressed that their biggest needs at this time are:

Bottled water and anything that would constitute a "care package" such as:

Toothbrushes

Toothpaste

Blankets

Undergarments

Soap

Clothes

These items can be brought to the First District office
415 4th Street, SW
Washington, DC 20024
Phone: (202) 698-0555
Fax: (202) 727-4026

Please help if you can.

Right now I'm listening to left channel that has National Guard and Customs units operating. They are passing coordinates of locations where helos need to go to evacuate people.

You may hear the callsign '"Omaha-1". That is the US Customs Cessna Citation jet. That is one of the planes that intercepts aircraft that violate the airspace around DC. The rest of the "Omaha" units are customs too.
