Cherry Blossoms - March 30, 2007, 08:56 AM

FYI, everyone: The cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

I drive by them every morning and they're a beautiful now as I think they will be all season.

My girl and I are heading down to DC with a camera on Sunday to get some photos of the blossoms. We have 2 empty seats in the cage if anyone's interested in joining us.

On a semi-related note, several years ago, I rode into the District to watch the Cherry Blossom fireworks. I had a great plan: Ride to waterfront, sit on the bike, and ride out when the show was over, thus beating traffic..........

Then the Metro Police blocked the road, and I spent the next thirty minutes riding around Southeast looking for the signs to I-395.......

Ever have the feeling where you WANT to be pulled over by a cop so you can ask directions?

We're going to walk down there this weekend. I might even take a walk down there over lunch.

I'll be going down with my daughter so we can get some pics -- don't know if it'll be Saturday or Sunday, though. It's been years since I've gone down for the festival.

Cheers

Besides the Cherry Blossom Festival, they also have Kite Day. It's tomorrow Saturday...all day. It's really cool to see hundreds of kites in the air.

I went down there over lunch and walked by the tidal basin, beautiful out!!!

When the wind kicks up the sky fills with pink and white blossoms.

Last year I had more fun sitting and glaring at the tourists who came up and ripping little branches off the trees for their personal amusement. Aren't they National monuments? Isn't ripping branches off considered "defacing" a National monument? Even better were the ones who would violently shake the tree so they could frolik in a shower of pink petals.

An awesome site and I can't wait to get back and bring the DSLR down there and see what type of pictures I can get of both the blossoms and the morons walking around them.
