Chevy V8 - September 24, 2008, 11:49 AM

Would anyone know where I could pick up a good used Chevy V8 350 or 305 cheap? I just got a Jaguar XJS and want to do the engine swap because the V12's that come in those are unreliable.

sounds like my kind of project. Look on Craigslist and in the Valley Trader. Chevy V8's are rednecks number 1 choice for powering their redneck mobiles.

The adapter plate will prolly set you back more than the engine.

There used to be an F-body "junkyard" in Philly that sold complete transmission/engine takeouts. By "complete" I mean engine, tranny, ecu, and wiring harness. Pretty much everything you need to do the swap.

I bought a 96 LT1/4l60e setup from them a few years back when I was going to do a swap in an S10. I couldn't believe the organization of the place. Very top notch and certainly beats any pick-a-part I've ever been too.

I'll see if I can find a link.

the swap kit including the transmission mount for a 700R4 is only $600. I have checked craigslist but come up with nothing so far.

That suncoast kit is the one that i am looking at, It seems like a nice kit. I have that website set to my favorites. That page has a ton of good information on it. I don't think you would want that engine, It is seized and is very unreliable. I am going to see if i can't sell it because i have to recoop some of the cost of doing the swap. Other than the engine the car is in great condition.

Are you looking to just drop in a FI small block or are you looking for something that is a little built maybe a mild cam and some head work. Whats your budget for a motor and trans? I have driven a Jag with a V* in it before and it was a shit load of fun.

Try hitting up Racingjunk.com
if you are looking for just a stock drop out you can get a LS1 with trans and computer for around $3500 the last time i looked. Just have to find a good one at a junk yard

I am looking to get a regular V8 and beef it up a little, somewhere around 380-400 WHP which would only cost about 200 for the kit with forged pistons and an 0.03 overbore.

C'mon up here 'round these parts. Chevy V8s are a dime a dozen.

I was looking to put one in my XJ, and they're pretty much everywhere. I've still got my eye on a completely refinished though still "stock" (reliable!) 305 with a Turbo350 tranny for like 1300 bones.

Now, if only I knew enough to do the swap myself. I'll spend double that to have someone do it right.

Good luck. Sounds like an interesting project.

Right up the 1 hole.

I did not think state emissions would allow for this now. I know if you want to do a V8 swap you have to use a Jeep V8 IE the Cherokee ZJ had an HEMI option that's why your able to use it in the TJ's. Things you learn from power block TV.

Racingjunk.com has a TON of motors on it. You might also want to hit up local machince shops as well. If you want a newer motor, LTX, LSX, Hit up any corvette/fbody forum, or craigslist.

Where's up here? So far I am only finding performance engines for 1800+ and that doesn't include the transmission or mounting kit.

OK, I talked to a friend of mine who runs a salvage yard and he is going to get me the v8. Now, I have to get the car from VA Bch to Manassas VA on the 10th and if I can't get it running it is going to have to be towed does anyone have any suggestions on how I should accomplish this?
