So... has anyone here had actual experience with their cloud server dying and the behavior/speed of the support team getting it back for you? I am particularly interested in Amazon and Rackspace.

Example.. 1and1 clouds..
1. linux.. 2 years, 100% uptime, zero problems..
2. windows 2008, 1 month old... hard crash, not reachable via ping or anything else. Called support, bumped to server support, put on admin support queue.. Would not give time frame, I insisted and was told at least 3 or 4 hours before they could even look at it. My customer called them, was told probably *tonight*..

This is unacceptable and we will change providers.. But I don't want to move to another provider who's just as bad..

All these services are basically the same as long as things are working well, its really what they do in these sort of situations that make the big difference (Assuming decent performance of course).

It depends what you're trying to do. Amazon was such a PITA with a SharePoint deployment that we canned it, but we've been happy with them for everything else. Their reliability is top notch and their staff is quick and efficient. I haven't looked at pricing in awhile but they were more than competitive at the time.

ya, the main thing I want to know is that the provider is there to HELP you.. That they will actually GET ON IT when your server goes completely dark instead of putting you on some queue to be looked at in some unspecified number of hours (before even LOOKING).. Really PISSED..
