Comcast High Speed Internet Customers: Is your internet pissing slow? - December 10, 2011, 04:53 PM

Wanted to see if anyone here got any problem with Comcast High Speed internet service?

I signed up for Comcast Blast Service few months ago. At first, it was pretty good, but since then it all had gone downhill. My internet is SLOWWW!

Let me tell you this, nothing pisses me off more than slow internet.

I m wondering why am I experiencing this problem? Often, when I want to surf, it wouldn't load up sites that fast at all. For example, it took a minute for me to finally get into this page which allows me to create this thread. It is damn annoying. Of course, there are times when it is lightning fast, but not consistent though.

I did the speed test and here is my result:

My internet speed seems to be up to par, but it is not acting like it on the internet. All of my roommates are bitching about the same thing. Any ideas? I know some computer stuff, but I am no whiz.

I know I should be calling Comcast Customer service but I thought I d try troubleshooting myself first

P.S. My subscription is Performance service with Blast power boost

This is among the slower speed tests I've done on my iPhone. Even with these numbers, I'm able to stream anything and open anything in a timely manner. When I run the test in my VAIO, I get 5ms ping, 30 up and 10 down and it's blazing fast. What modem and router combo are you running?

I'm lucky to get 10.

Then again, I paid just over 200k for my place in nowhereville, so its a trade off

I got Ubee D3.0 Modem and Netgear WNR1000 wireless router.

I got to say the modem looks a bit ancient lol. Is that why, maybe? I'm just used to my old DSL 2Wire modem with built in wifi. It was the bomb.

I don't know what the problem is but it could be the internet backbones in the area. When I am testing the speed to a server in the region I am getting generally high speeds but a latency of sometimes +500ms. Then when I test it using a server across the country in Cali I get high speeds with a latency of -50ms. I'm assuming it must be the regional infrastructure is either running at high capacities or is purposefully throttled back on purpose. Which in turn can affect all of us since residential internet traffic does not have the same priority as business, military, and government.

Also, don't completely discard the possibility that one of your roommates may have left a torrent program running and seeding files in the background without realizing it.

Nobody in this house pirates anything.

Today it is pretty ridiculous. Doesn't help with my 20 page final research paper. Had to go over to Library rather staying at home to work on the paper.

I'm calling customer service after final exam tomorrow morning.

I had similar problems a few months ago, my speed tests were showing respectable speeds but nothing was working correctly. Got an updated modem from comcast and bought a linksys E4200 and it has been much, much better.

Murphy's Law says that by tomorrow when you call customer service it will be working in tip top shape.

I never had problems with Comcast when I was with them, as far as internet service. TV service was all kinds of crappy though. Went Fios as soon as it became available in my neighborhood and havent looked back

For the most part I get these speeds. But I have my modem in bridge mode and have a really nice cisco router.

Yeah I am old enough to know better. Thing is, I just don't care.
