Computer help - ? for the computer savvy - February 18, 2010, 12:26 PM

I have a Velocity Micro Notemagix M15 system.

Windows 7 Home premium ( came with windows Vista Ultimate )
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.56 Ghz processor
4 gigs Ram
NVidia Gforce 9600M GT Video Card
Blah Blah Blah...

Since I received the computer a year ago I have experienced frequent freezing of ALL the buttons on the computer. You start a word Doc and 10 - 15 minutes later it's likely you'll be stuck unable to type, unable to press and hold the power button to for the comp to shut down. The mouse pad will work, and if you try to shut the comp down through the start menu it will never complete the task. It gets stuck at the shutting down screen.

Every single button ceases to function, however external devices such as keyboards and mice continue to work and the computer continues to operate. I can open and close programs etc.

I have sent my computer back to Velocity multiple times and each time they keep it for a few weeks before returning it with the status of "Unable to recreate the issue / no issues found"

So, I would like to give Velocity a huge middle finger of appreciation in this matter when every time I sent the computer in I specifically said "Just have your techs get on Word or play a game for 30 minutes and you'll find it."

Since Velocity is the worst customer tech support I've EVER dealt with I'm coming to ya'll for advice on what the problem is... Right now I paid for a laptop that's basically just a compact desktop at the moment plugged into my TV.

Thanks for the advice in advance...

Hrmmm...since you upgraded to 7 from Vista....thinking maybe someone got screwed up when it registered the keyboard drivers. Could be wrong though, 7 was direct upgrade from Vista and was supposed to have all drivers in order. Anyways, try looking at the Control Panel Hardware/Driver profiles to see an error. It could be something totally different though.

Next time it does it get on your virtual keyboard in the control panel under accessibility. Check the hardware profile for errors.

My guess is that your actually having a physical hardware issue.

But due to the fact that your problem goes away temporarily with a restart you could very well have a very bad case of malware or a rootkit virus. The rootkit that attacked me last month would corrupt files and locked up hardware when ever I tried to remove it.

So I would back up any important files and try a fresh install and reformat the HD that is something simple that could save a lot of headaches. Do not copy any new files back on till you have current virus definitions and all windows updates. When load ing the media with your files scan every thing fist.

That my 2c

Correct. I was hoping Vista was the root of my problems so when 7 came out I was quick to purchase the upgrade - which did nothing for the issue.

Unless my computer came with malware or rootkit from the factory then I'm not so certain this is the cause.

I have checked the driver which is up to date and supposedly operating properly. I have reinstalled Vista several times and installed Win7 once, every time doing a fresh install.

Vista doesn't make you have issues like he's having. I've been running Vista on my laptop for the past 3 years, and I haven't had issues like that.

You were lucky then. I had nothing but problems on a brand new expensive lappy that came installed Vista.... lan and wireless driver malfuntion....not recgonizing USB drives... or when it froze up and ruined my term paper. Saved it..and vista/office corrupted it. Over 15 pages of work. Wasn't fun rewriting that! Got Windows 7 Ultimate and voila no problems since.

The thought of replacing the keyboard has crossed my mind, just not certain where I could get one that would work without being by Velocity even more.

You could also try pulling and reseating your ram. Sometime that can cause freezes too.

Did you upgrade Bobby or do a fresh install? Usually if you do and upgrade may continue to have problems. The best thing to do is always to a fresh install.
