good find Ben. As for the larger hard drive a 32 GB Solid State Hard Drive is around $600 now, Dell has a 64 GB for $950. You could always switch it out when the prices go down in the future.

The 8GB is supposed to be released at the end of this month. I also heard they were going to make a 10" model.

I was really looking at getting one but I'm hesitant. I'd like to check one out and see if its worth buying over getting a regular laptop for just a little more. Also see how well the 7" screen works. I've used a 10" Vaio and loved it but 7" could be more of a PITA.

It's ultra-portable, the size is pretty much the point of it.

As for harddrive space, the only thing I'd load on the 4gig would be the OS, anything else can be stored on a USB external (3 USB ports) as big as your heart desires. You can even get a 16gig thumbdrive if you want to keep it small.

sounds like a perfect track laptop...throw it in the racing bin in a nice thick neoprene case, load up the PC3 software, etc.

or, if you have data acquisition....

That's pretty much what I thought. What a perfect track laptop. It's small, rugged, light, set up fairly decently... shit, you throw a few VMs on a bootable external and the capabilities are significant. Beyond that if the 4gig is too small (the REAL limiting factor) just toss a disc drive in there, assuming they have the same footprint.

The funny thing about what Scot said is, this really does resemble a thin client... if tracks were to make OS's and software availible to wireless network clients you could technically download them at the track and work from there.

Well, I've read a bunch of reviews and even watched some video reviews on youtube. One review showed that it came with voice recognition software. I'm going to try to pick one up this weekend to try out first hand.

Thats the first thing that went through my head when i say this. We end up with 4 laptops at the race track for the cars. This would be great for that application. especially with a larger thumb drive.
