Apparently they didn't move out of the way because there was no place to move TO... There were cars to their right and a car in front.. So they stayed still.. Which is what you are supposed to do !

I wonder what the officer was rushing to that he could not slow down for an intersection?

Sad all around. There were several comments on the article thread where a witness supposedly mentioned that the cruiser was only running lights until the last second and had a clear lane on the right side.

I always wonder how the police is supposed to remain impartial when they are investigating themselves.

Unfortunately, Indiana law doesn't require helmets, and it's very likely that riders weren't wearing helmets. Every time I head back to visit fam, I maybe see one person wearing a helmet. I wonder if they would have survived if they had full helmets on. What an unfortunate incident.

I doubt from a full on impact from the rear like that.

Something I always had beat into my head by LEO and LEO related friends in Ohio is that emergency personnel do NOT have the right away. Yes, you can receive failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, but they do not have the right to just go full force into an intersection where they have a red light.

(Hell, there was an incident while I was in Ohio, where a firetruck went through a red light, and killed an older lady. He was brought up on charges of vehicular manslaughter)

So, I guess I don't see how the cops can truly play this down...

Very sad.

Well if his sirens were really on then he probably had his camera on. They'll have to release it sooner or later to see what really happened. RIP.

Amazing how this thread has more activity than the one about the Loudoun motor cops getting taken out.

Hmm, law could be different in Indiana; I'm not sure. Most people move on the shoulder and put on the hazards anyway. I feel like they should have the right of way when lights are going. Of course, it's hard to hear them when you're blazing your music, not looking in your rear every 10 seconds, or can't hear from the sound of the bike.

Who knows what happened. I have a feeling that the officer was going fast with his lights on, the bikes didn't hear him, and he couldn't stop in time. I don't think any cop bashing should happen if we don't know exactly what happened.
