Costco Employee shot and killed in Sterling Costco - May 30, 2013, 10:19 AM

Sterling Sheriff shot and killed employee in Sterling VA Costco.

Sheriff's deputy injured after woman killed at Virginia Costco - UPI.com

One of the sheriffs responding to the incident at a Virginia Costco that left an employee dead was injured during the attempt to subdue her. Two Loudon County sheriffs deputies confronted Mhai Scott, 38, an employee at the Sterling Costco, after she began acting strangely near the end of her shift Wednesday afternoon.
Scott brandished a knife at the two officers, who police declined to identify, and when she ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon, the deputies attempted to subdue her using a taser.
When that failed to stop her, one of the deputies fired his gun several times, killing her.
The second deputy was injured in the leg by a gunshot, possibly a ricochet from the other deputy's weapon, Loudon County Sheriff Mike Chapman confirmed in a briefing to media.
"The second deputy received a leg injury and it appears as though he's going to be fine," Chapman said. "He's at the hospital right now."
"It's possible that the ricocheting bullet hit the second deputy," he said.
Robert Krause, an optometrist who works in the building and witnessed the incident, told Leesberg Today he heard five gunshots and later saw the injured deputy taken from the store on a stretcher.
Kraus said the injured man was on his cell phone.

I wonder if the knife was part of a 102-piece set.

Yeah this one seems pretty straightforward. Unlike the guy shot by an off duty Alexandria deputy a few days ago.

Sheriff Deputies aren't trained to disarm? Deadly force, not knowing all the facts, seems to be extreme. This woman may have been low on meds and the situation could have been handled better than firing off 5 or 6 shots.

Yeah, could have just been one well placed shot.

Probably wouldn't have shot his friend in the leg, too.

I was really upset when I heard about another shooting in the area. I'm not sure if I am just better informed now or if gun related incidents have just gone up recently.

I'm not sure what this lady expected. If you come at a cop with a weapon you should expect to be shot at.

Easy to judge LEOs behind a keyboard and I know they gotta be ready to shoot in an instant, but goddamn there are some sketchy shootings out there with little discretion.

From what I'm seeing, lady has a knife, won't get ride of the knife so they taze her. It's not effective, she still has the knife, so they shoot her.

Sounds about right to me.

Someone comes at a cop with a knife they should fully expect to be shot and probably killed.

this is true

bottom line is if you don't want the cops to shoot you, don't wave a fucking knife at them.

I work at the Leesburg Costco. It was a CDS lady (the ladies who hand out samples). They aren't employees of Costco directly they are basically a third party hire. Apparently she was acting very sketchy and had a knife. People called 911 and they were there extremely fast. All I have to say is it was an older lady with a knife......come on. She hands out samples and has a knife to cut up whatever she's making into sample sizes. Something goes wrong and I guess she started acting all crazy. They tried tazing her and it didn't work....why not use pepper spray? I truly believe this could have easily been stopped without discharging 5 rounds in a store.

My guess is it was some unathletic police officer who truly felt fear for his life by an old lady with a knife. Obviously I wasn't there or in the situation but I really think me and another guy could have easily stopped her ourselves. Drop kick her ass or something.
