Cycling? Road/Mountain - July 11, 2006, 10:15 AM

Recently I've spoken to several people who ride road bikes and mountain bikes. I figured I'd start this thread to see if anyone would like to meet up sometime and get some rides in.

What we'll do is identify the area you ride and what type of riding (Road bike or Mountain bike) Also, identify your condition new, seasoned, or racer.

I'll start:

I ride both road and mountain bike and I'll say I'm new as far as condition. I ride Manassas/Woodbridge area but am willing to ride other areas on weekends.

Anyone else?

I ride road and mtn but new as far as conditioning as well. I'm in the Reston area but would ride elsewhere as well.

Devious, I'm happy to show you some pretty cool mtn biking areas around here to.

Let's do a ride soon. I'm totally out of shape but used to be pretty fast. I'll drive out west if we can think of a good ride to do. I'm out of town this weekend but could do the next saturday?

if folks want to do a saturday or sunday ride close to DC, I'll lead a ride out of rock creek park and we'll roll out towards MD and circle back around, something 50-80 miles total depending on who shows up. There is some good riding that direction.
but i'm more interested in riding out west b/c I've never done it so I need devious to lead that one.

I'm game...anyone else interested in doing a ride next Saturday? We need to figure out road ride or mountain bike ride though...wouldn't be fair for those on a mountain bike to try and keep pace with a road bike.

I know a couple of guys who race road bikes so they know all the roads out west...my conditon isn't up to par to hang with those guys yet (avg. 20+ mph over 50-80 miles)

I'm not even close to what I used to be so let's make sure and set the ride pace expectation so everyone knows what is expected.

Dc...put up a post on a meeting time/spot for next Saturday!

I'd do next Saturday the 22nd. Don't think that I can do 50-80 miles though. Not in that kind of shape anymore. Maybe 30-40 on the road or go mtn biking...

W&OD
43 miles one way.
Easy ride, no real hills.

For mountain biking, start in Reston and bike through the woods to Lake fairfax, and on to Great falls.

When planning, your best bet is to post the distance and probable times. that way people can figure out if it is a ride they want to do. One of the benefits of the W&OD is that you can't get lost. So if someone thinks they can't make the whole ride they can simply turn around and head back without worrying about getting lost.

Come up to MD. I can show you the trails at the Watershed in Frederick. It's some of the best trails in MD for Mtn biking. As long as you don't mind following a horse.....
