DC folks, vote for Initiative 71 today! - November 4, 2014, 10:19 AM

Initiative 71 would allow people over 21 to possess up to two ounces of marijuana for personal use and grow up to six cannabis plants. It does not allow people to smoke in public.

It'd be pretty awesome if DC -our nation's capital- put an end to prohibition. If you're a registered DC voter, exercise your rights and vote today.

This should cruise through.
Gray decriminalized minor possession earlier this year and medical use went into effect in January.

DC realizes that warehousing people in Lorton for minor possession is simply becoming too much of a strain on the city budget.

Even Chief Cathy Lanaire realizes that this has been an extraordinary waste of police resources.

It will be nice to have a front row seat to the disintegration of DC.

First you can buy handguns, now you can apply for a permit to carry them, and hopefully drug laws will soon fall.

Yeah freedom!

Legalize lane splitting while we're at it.

Colorado seems to be doing just fine...

... that being said I do realize a dense urban population like DC might not react the same as Colorado.

Underaged possession would still be criminal.
Smoking in public is still criminal irrespective of age, as is possession of any amount greater than an ounce.
Non-licensed sales and distribution, also criminal.
Not sure on the guidelines of plant growth.

It's not quite the free for all some trying to gin up fear over.

The laws are rational and responsible reforms in light of changing views on marihuana use.

Colorado has a booming industry now. However there are issues. Federal financial laws prohibit banks from accepting money coming from known drug sales. (Or something to that effect) So they essentially have a very large cash business and can't put the money in the banks. Now you have prime targets for criminals.

I say good for the city.

It is not about the kids on the streets. It is about the law... A lot of people are locked up just for possessing marijuana, which is ridiculous.

I know plenty of successful people who smokes. Gateway drug and all that stuff is just something that media had taken up to fill in spaces on their publications.

Von - I m curious if it made any difference if you saw bunch of 14 year old male/females opening up some bottles of liquor and drinking in the alley? To my perspective, this is absolutely no different from what you saw/experienced. Just that they did it in that fashion because marijuana is still inaccessible and illegal.
