DCSBN - The last 7 years - March 7, 2010, 02:14 PM

I joined this site for the first time in 2003 around May, I joined but forgot my account info. Back then it was a drama-fest. Heard about it at Colemans in Woodbridge, I lived down the street and was there fairly often. I remember when Stillie (4 years before I met him) was stirring the pot, Craig was apparently a mod, and RixRide was moving on. I was on Gixxer.com back then, so I didn't come over here much cause it was a crazy drama fest from what I could see

I've heard a few people bring up changes in the general site mentality and I thought I'd pitch in my two cents on what I think the phenomenon might be.

Older members are investing elsewhere : We have lives, families, significant others, racing, people move, people pass on, people get out of riding. Within the first year and a half of being on this site I hung out with people off of here every weekend. Brought friends to the site. Did things with people on the site nearly every week. There was a strong sense of community because of the people here, and that drew others.

If you were to look at the era's (for me) of this site, the first one would be:

- The RixRide Era (2001-2004.5): actually based off a totally different website that migrated to here after someone took their ball and went home. He kept the site going for a couple of years, got busy impregnating his hot wife and moved away. Gave the site to Rob. Lots of drama back then.

- The ClemsonJeeper/BRings Ashburn KPs Era (2003-2007): This I was not really a part of in the early days. I came to KPs a couple of times but mostly I was part of the Jimmy's faction of Herndon. A lot of TWTs happened, lots of meetups, lots of people hanging out.

- The Racing Era (2007-2008 ): In 2007 a lot of .Net went racing. A lot of us started hanging out together, but outside of this site... more for the common interests we have... though the racing era (for me) is pretty much over. Most of my friends have moved out of it.

For the site, after 2007 things kinda petered out. The core of people that hung out together dissipated. A few people passed on, a few people moved away. Many of us are still hanging out, but it's no longer based on this site at all. I don't even think I've gone to an event or meetup in almost a year except to sell something I advertised here.

It's left a void for some of the newer members to come in and be more influential... I think a lot of people probably share my perspective of the site, especially the ones that hung out with the people I did. For some of you I'm sure it's been different. In all I don't mind the change, or the progress, I just come back sometimes a bit more a stranger here than I left. *shrug*

It's the interwebs....

So does this mean you're gonna buy that DRZ SM and start riding on the streets again?

Nope I'm still racing, but the people I've raced with have mostly moved on.... I won't be racing much this year because of my travel schedule.

If I get a street bike it'll probably be a Duke.

gimme some time dammit, I haven't moved on by choice, I'll be back as soon as the training schedule relaxes, probably 2012, maybe next year depending on airframe

Good, I'll need an endurance partner. I'm going to finally do a full season next year, that's my plan. This year I'll be lucky to get 3 or 4 weekends each in CCS or WERA.

I wanna hang out but I have to bring the wife since she is attached at my hip!

I also met some really cool people, but because I am an introvert mainly I dont go out much, but when I do I make a good time for everyone. Usually at my expense.

Im hoping my bike doesnt sell(wink Wink) and I can do some track days this year and meet some more people. I want to experience a real race(watching).

People like on this site and that I have riden with are people who I respect very much, and as people come and go new and old mix. We may chose to leave but we are truly always here.

the rixride era started late 02. Previous to that....it was the DC sub forum of Sportbikes.net.

We might have had 20 or so regular posters back then and we all hated eachother.

I came over here when SBN got poopy after Fred said he was taking his ball and going home. I was even a moderator here when the place first opened.

I think stillie deleted me back in 2004 as a user.
