^ Fru, bluenile and some others are pretty good.

For local, I recommend Ed at IGS. Loose Diamonds Wholesale Washington DC | Northern VA
(703) 281-1888
444 Maple Avenue East Vienna,
VA 22180

Tell him Brad Jordan sent ya. Ed made my wifes engagement ring and wedding band.

FYI just priced out Blue Nile, two round .46 ct (TW .92 ct for two earings) G, SI 1, Good cut, with a GIA cert; $1755, another $200ish for the setting. Similar prices on overstock, costco.

Although they're retail outlets, I have had some success with Mervis and Zales. Kay sells a lot of junk to me (colored, inclusions, low grade) but does a pretty good job in their creative settings.

If you want you could always ask for a <cough> engineered diamond (Vapor deposition not CZ) and she'll never know the difference. It's a diamond in every way, just formed in a machine for 1/3 the cost of a naturally formed diamond of equivalent weight and clarity.

The price of diamonds has long been set by a cartel intent on keeping the price high; luckily for them there are GFs, who as we know have the power to make men do dumb things.

HIGHLY recommend -

Quest Fine Jewelers
8430 Lee Hwy
Fairfax, VA 22031

Great local jeweler. Bought wife's engagement ring, our wedding bands, and have recommended several friends to them (all who are very satisfied). No hard sell; they always try and find what's best for you and within your budget and their pricing is VERY competitive and always better than you would find in a retail store (most local jewelers do have better pricing in general though).

They are actually having Anniversary Sales Event December 5th, 6th, & 7th where they usually take like 30-50% off things (obviously depends item to item). I also believe they have a referral program where you can save even more.

Read the yelp reviews, they speak for themselves - Yelp Captcha

If you are looking for more info on diamonds, etc check out pricescope.com and their forums (how I initially found out about Quest).

Also as previously said, NO WAY will you get 1ct. Diamond Earrings for $350...

It's a lot of women's dream to have a pair of real diamond earrings. Simple and classic, but also "luxury".

Moe check out Zachary's in down town Annapolis. Great people, great products, great quality, great prices. Also, since you live in DC pending on how much you spend they can ship to your house and not charge tax. I have purchased a couple pieces. Also free watch adjustments and battery changes.

Then she had to throw you a curveball and get all "girly" on you, huh?

Just get the the same swag, but have it all bedazzled.

By the time you pay for that you might as well of gotten the earrings (doesn't have to be 1ct though)...

Also, just so you know 1ct sounds like a nice number (that you will pay for it being such), but if you go a little under 1ct (say ~.85) you can save LOTS and the size isn't drastically different.
