Arrow Do you use Asylum.com? - April 22, 2008, 02:23 PM

I am considering a job with Asylum.com but have no experience with the site.

I'd like to know if anyone routinely visits the site -- if so do you like it? Think it's worthwhile?

Never heard of it. Checked it out, not sure what to make of it. Is it a subsidiary of AOL?

Yes, it's an AOL property which is why I'm asking around to see if anyone actually uses the site.

I dunno Cliff.... I personally steer clear of things AOL nowadays, too commercial, too much SPAM. It was once a great company whose marketing and savvy distribution brought the www to everyman... They created a huge amount of revenue and employment to the area and I treasured providing service to the employees - many of which became millionaires in a very brief period of time. That time, of course, has past, and I view AOL as drowning in a sea of mediocrity grasping for the life ring of the next best thing.

I guess the best question about the site is, How long has it been around and What does it want to be? Is it News? Entertainment? A search engine? A YouTube clone? Who is the target market? How are revenues generated? I kept looking for a "about Asylum.com" link but didn't see it. (Not to say it isn't there...I just didn't see it.)

I'd be happy to see AOL find success once again (and bring jobs and revenue back to the area should they actually stay here) but this is just my view from someone not directly in the IT industry.

Yeah, I worked for them until last Oct. Everything you mentioned is valid.

Forget that. You need to work here: http://www.asylumdc.com. Free bike parking, plenty of beer, angry music, and crazy girls.
