When I lived on Long Island, a Viper owner took his car in to be serviced. The mechanics took it for a joy ride and promptly flipped it over a utility pole guide wire.

Dealer tried to give him diminished value. He sued them for much more and won.

The dealership should have quietly bought the car back from the customer and taken the difference in value out of the two technician's hides. This will cost the dealership more in lost sales and legal fee and judgements than what it would have cost them to satisfy the customer, with the promise that it would never happen again. it's pretty obvious that the management is as sleazy as the service department.

I worry about this kind of thing all the time and I do not trust anyone I do not know (and even then ...). I've seen this kind of thing before on cars that were not sold to anyone yet, but on a customer's car it is even worse. I'm glad he was able to catch it and I hope the dealership and techs are penalized appropriately.

Technicians & salesman who trash inventory are so common in dealerships I think anyone would be surprised. I know dozens of technicians (all brands) some salespeople and especially lot attendants/detailers who said "oh man I was doing a burn out" or "I did a e-brake power slide in xxxx" or "man I got that thing up to 100mph." People need to be as vigilant as this guy was about ensuring that their vehicles aren't trashed and then consequently are taken on a financial ride with the dealer. Take note of your mileage, tire condition, curbed rims, bent fenders from poor lifting techniques (I had my fenders bent from a shitty lift) and know who your specific technician is and if they have a good reputation.

I've seen this type of stuff myself. Terrible.

When I find a trustworthy vendor, I stick with them. It pays to be honest and do good work.

I hope this guy gets a big settlement.

Dealership is going to claim it was the techs and not them. Ignore it until it goes away basically. They already know they won't be getting any sales or service work form this guy ever again.

I know that dealership. I grew up in Easley (went to High School at Easley High).

This does not surprise me in the least bit.
