Something to remember as we come into the warmer weather.

Wow, I was in drowning mode once and I didn't know it. I was at the ocean and a big wave came and I got spun over. Somehow my head did get above water a bit but I was acting just like the article mentioned. It felt just like those dreams where I can't cry out. Thankfully my feet ended up on the bottom and I walked back in. I felt alarmed but didn't think too much of it at the time. Side note: I didn't cry out for help and act like a baby afterwards like the kid in that wr250x/deer video.

I drowned back in the late 70's. To this day it is the BIGGEST fear/horror story FEELING I get. I do not know what I look like drowning, but i vividly remember after 30+ years how I felt and reading this article brought all this back up.
The good= My cousin seeing me go under and not coming back up (undertow) and getting me.

The Bad= Old Black Home Doctoring...snatched me out the water...tossed me across someones leg beat the shit out my back to make the water come out....tossed me on a blanket and said...no more beach for you all the whole while im coughing up flem/water for the next day lol.

If i didn't make a deal with the devil I would have died soooo many times in the past.

If only there were some type of device that would float and keep your head above the water's surface.

When I was younger, I used to work at a man-made lake/park called Timberlake. Any old school locals probably remember it. There is a neighborhood there now. Anyways, this place was a shit hole/disaster waiting to happen...and they usually did. I dont think there was a day that went by in the summer that the cops didnt show up. Basically, it was a huge man-made lake built on an even bigger park area.

There were "table sites" that people could rent for parties, cook-outs, etc. We would rent kegs of beer and people would come in and party ALLL day. There was a lot of folks from the lower end of the society spectrum if you know what mean. There were always fights. We would patrol the area on 4 wheelers all day (which was one of the only good parts). At 7pm, we would make our rounds and take the taps to the kegs away. This is usually when things got ugly.

One time there was a guy out in the water (about waist deep) with a cup in his hand. It was past 7 and you werent allowed to drink in the water anyways. Steve, one of our lifeguards (an old school guy you didnt fuck with) tried to get him out. The drinker basically said fuck you so Steve went in after him. Well...the guys buddies followed Steve in the water and they were about to jump him! Luckily there were others around and nothing happened.

Anyways, the point of this was to say that in the few summers I worked there I saw two little kids die from drowning. People would get HAMMERED and just leave their kids in and around the water. Seeing an eight year old girl who had been drowned in the water for more than 15 mins is a creepy sight. She was COMPLETELY purple. Didnt even look human. She was STIFF too. Lifeguards tried CPR, but she had been dead a long time.
