Post DUI drivers could be "tagged" in MD. - January 29, 2010, 03:06 PM

ANNAPOLIS, MD - Those who drink and drive in the state of Maryland could be required to have a license plate that reads "DUI."

The plates would be mandated for drivers who have been convicted of drinking and driving three or more times, and they would have to keep the plates on their cars for five years.

The bill was proposed by a Prince George's County delegate. He says drivers need to know who they are sharing the road with, especially if they have a record of driving under the influence.

I was wondering the same thing. They should put this plate on after ONE dui.

I fully endorse this idea, but it should be after the 2nd offense not 3rd!

I've always said that the federal government should (1) adopt a graduated drivers license system (i.e. new drivers / accident prone drivers should NOT be allowed to drive high HP performance cars or large trucks/SUVs on public roads, new drivers cannot drive after 10pm except to and from work.), (2) a uniform color ID system on every license plate that designates what kind of driver the registered owner of that vehicle is:

Yellow Florescent Stripe - New Driver / Beware

Red Florescent Stripe - Driver Has Had More than 3 Accidents in 5 years.

Purple Florescent Stripe - Multiple DUI/DWI convictions

etc. etc.

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.
