Dutch Motorcycle Gang Is Going To Fight ISIS - October 15, 2014, 12:05 AM

These guys don't strike me as the kind of folks that appreciate the difference between war on tv and real war.

Dutch Motorcycle Gang Is Going To Fight ISIS

Giving a whole new meaning to Bike Night

If the Spot was still going, we could have been right there with them....

It used to be illegal for a Dutch national to join any foreign military organization. Current law dictates they are allowed to do this as long as they do not take up arms against the Netherlands. Say what you will, but at least they are going beyond all caps internet rants to stand up for their beliefs. Also, they practice good trigger safety in all their vid clips so there's that...

This should be interesting.

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.

Interesting, a 21st century crusade, except it's the secular humanists against the Muslims. Seems legit.

Secular Humanist against the radicalized, genocidal secular Muslims would be more appropriate.

Not even close. Their motivation and rationalization is completely different.

I know you like to scape below the surface and probe for more thorough, intellectual answers not taking things at face value, but there's very little to examine with Isis.

Politic division of power and tribal frictions aside, they're slaughtering their own people because of a division in theoretical secular belief.

What is their motivation, Dutch? I haven't seen it mentioned in the press. And being ex-Satudarah does not preclude being a secular humanist interested in combating radical Islam.

What is this theoretical secular belief of ISIS's?

- Pure Caliphate State vs. Muslim Democracy.
- Sharia Law vs. Civil Law.
- Each person must adopt a hardcore Fundamentalist approach vs. Progressive application of the Q'ran to guidance of society and one's self.

etc. etc.

They're a Muslim Terrorist / Revolutionary Group who practices a sect of Islam that most of the Islamic world finds objectionable and too harsh.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. They--ISIS--essentially want a theocratic state in which all citizens profess belief in a single, unified faith, expressed homogeneously and with adherence demonstrated by following Sharia law. There is nothing secular about that.

I believe I might have read too fast and confused the meanings of 'secular' and 'sect' when I wrote my original reply.

Derp!

A sectarian battle to establish a theocracy is probably what you were looking for. I think this whole deal has some really interesting parallels to the Crusades of the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries. Here we have a group of Europeans with some militant tendencies heading into the Holy Land to combat hostile takeovers perpetrated by an aggressive Muslim sect. What are we missing, other than that the former bike gang members are not professing Christians?
