DV6000 laptop overheated... - April 19, 2011, 04:35 PM

Well the bastards in the dorms cranked the heat over 100 on my floor when I went to work. The laptop overheated in my room while on the charger now it sporadically shuts down, restarts, or freezes.

I was wondering if anyone knows of some good software to help me pinpoint the damaged hardware.

I paid about 1600+ back in 07 and I know it is no where close to that now, but its still a damn good machine but HP no longer supports it and told me to go to geek squad WTF!?

I'm still using XP Pro
4GB ram
SSD HDD
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400
Centrino Core 2 DUO @1.6Ghz per core
LightScribe DVD burner
Intel Pro wireless card with Bluetooth
Stereo mic with web cam

It has all the bells and whistles spec'd if that helps for anyone with computer diagnostic experience.

Exactly why are you blaming overheating? How would you know that this is what is causing your problems anyway? Are you overclocking anything?

I was also under the impression that if temp gets too high, the machine will power down...

Unless the temp sensor is bad. Given that the problem didn't occur until after the 100 degree incident, its likely damage from heat.

In either case, I pmed him some steps to isolate the problem. He should be fine

I'm shooting that the most likely problem is in that SSD HDD of his. Kick ass technology but still too new and is too sensitive.
