E-Zpass to start charging monthly service charge and other fees - June 17, 2009, 11:13 AM

Beginning July 1, 2009, several E-ZPass Maryland changes will take effect:
Monthly Account Charge.
A monthly account charge of $1.50 will be deducted from all E-ZPass Maryland accounts. Please note: this charge is per account and not per transponder.
E-ZPass Transponders.
All new or replacement devices must be purchased. The following rates apply for
transponders:
Standard - $21.00
Exterior - $33.00
Fusion - $40.00
Commuter Discount Program.
The duration of E-ZPass Maryland commuter discount plans will be reduced
from 60 days to 45 days.
E-ZPass Shoppers Plan for the Bay Bridge.
A new Bay Bridge plan will be offered for Bay Bridge customers. The Shoppers Plan costs $10 and is good for 10 trips that may be used Sunday through Thursday only and expires after six months.
Notice of Toll Due.
Traveling through any lane in the toll facility without providing sufficient payment for the toll due will cost $3 + toll due. The notice will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.
Toll Violation Charge.
Failure to pay the toll due by the deadline will result in a $25 fee in addition to the $3 + toll due.

Does VA charge a monthly fee?

I might have to switch. I have had MD EZ Pass, since VA didn't feel the need to team up w/ the rest of the east coast for a long time.

so what's the solution? VA? their site says for out of state persons to sign up in their own state, but looks like you can still go through the process...

I have always had the NY Ezpass. No charge for the transponder, and no monthly charge. You don't have to live in NY to get it.

sweet signed up for NY ezpass, lower min amount than VA, and no deposit needed with credit card payments. Just like VA they tried to redirect me to ezpass MD, but at the first screen i just said i was an NY resident and it took me to the regular regristration where i was allowed me to enter my MD address, and MD licence plates.
