electronic speedometer and tachometer in a car? - June 14, 2009, 06:39 PM

I was watching the Le Mans race, and they showed the cockpit of one of the Ferraris. It had an electronic display(instead of the generic needle display) for the tachometer and speedometer. It looked a lot like the ducati display which I love. Do people fit custom displays like that in their cars? I've never heard of it before, but there has to be someone out there who's done it. look at the pics below

the only ones i've seen look like shyt. I remember my dad's cutlass supreme with the green bars to represent the gas tank level and the digital speedo, haha, looked like a calculator. But the kind I'm talking about are the ones like in the pics, that are kind of race style.

Motec Race Pak and PCS all make an electric aftermarket dash for cars we have run them in race cars for many years and have even put them on street cars. however you need to have a stand alone engine management system to use them. The Motec system can run you up to $10,000 the PCS plugs into the F.A.S.T. stand alone and the whole kit will cost you about $5k before wiring the system to the car. the Race Pak isnt really a stand alone engine management as much as it is a data acquisition system and runs anywhere from $5k-$25k depending on what and how much you want monitored

Now those are top end full race units. there are a few companies that sell different dashes that work well on bikes and other stuff they just dont all data log at high rates and over many different parameters
