Ends and Beginnings - December 18, 2009, 10:36 AM

Today is my last day at my current job. I've been the Corporate Communications Lead for a small business. I migrated over here after working for the last Administration in the Office of Presidential Personnel.

I've spent the last bit of my life after I got out of the military in government contracting, doing IT / professional services type work for a small company serving the DoD and Intel Community. I've enjoyed the heck out of it; been a part of some really nifty stuff etc. etc.

I have pretty much nothing to do today, and my de-brief isn't until 3:30. I got bored and hopped on the forum.

I've been offered the opportunity to go back to work for the government with Homeland. It's really an offer I can't pass up, and is a huge step in the right direction (I think) for me and my career.

I begin my new job Monday, and have given up my Christmas vacation to hit the ground running on this thing. I'm psyched. (Mom's a bit pissed, but ohh well)

I know serveral of you are looking for jobs currently; in the time I spent looking, I saw that there's a HUGE need on the government side of the house for technical people. If you have the skills, don't be afraid to hit up USAjobs.gov, or directly apply to individual agency websites. I used both strategies, and actually got a ton of call-backs. There are a ton of positions out there, and the gov't is desperate for good people (private firms tend to be able to offer more $$, so the gov't is finding ways to compensate)

A couple of you asked me to pass your resumes on to my current company and our customers, and I've done so. I don't know if anyone ever got call-backs or not, but I sure hope some of you did.

I really have no idea why I'm writing, just that I wanted to share with some of those out there that there IS hope in this nasty economy.

Good luck to everyone currently in the hunt. Mine's finally over (let's hope that it's over for a while).
