Experience with uhaul hitches? - February 24, 2011, 07:25 AM

So I've been sitting here in Spartanburg, SC since Friday, bored out of my mind. The guy who normally covers this area is out for training so lucky me I got to cover for him. Not so bad though, the weather has been spectacular. Problem = my bikes are at home.

I've been toying around with the idea of having a hitch put on my sebring so I can pull a bike with me on trips like this.

Anybody have any experience with the uhaul hitches or something simliar? Good? Bad? etc?

I know a few folks who have had them done with no problem. I would like some insight as well. I was about an hour away from putting one on our van when we went to OBX. Ended up riding down and saving the coin. They can end up being pricey if you go to a place with a good rep. I got some quotes from the Uhaul place in Manassas of Dumfries. They had the best price IIRC.

This too.

With the help of Kev, we put a Hidden Hitch on our Jeep. Took us a bit longer than an hour, but that's because we also have a safari rack that didn't give us much wiggle room when fastening the hitch to the frame.

LOL. I just got to work and I usually try to check the 'news' of the day before the office starts piling in. (BTW- did people make it out to Red Rocks? I heard Henry was MIA, my back was jacked, and no one replied to my question on the thread, so I stayed home and took a rest.)

Only reason we decided to have Uhaul install was because of their nation-wide warranty and supposed cheapness of install + hitch cost.

In the end, it def was not worth it. I almost would have rather shot myself in both feet. Lesson learned.

go to Trailer hitch, hitches and bike rack (800)298-8924, you will find a hitch that will bolts on. easy installation on my avalon. only problem i ran in to was predrilled holes on my car was kinda rusty so i had to use a tap to clean it up a bit.

Yes, a few of us made it out to Red Rocks.

Henry was MIA in the AM and early afternoon then showed up to RR about 7:00. We hung out til about 9:30 and rolled out. He was still there enjoying his Bud's. I wonder how he's feeling this morning.

The hitches are fine. It's installation you should worry about. If you buy a hitch you should be able to install it yourself if you have basic tools and some mechanical aptitude.

It isn't rocket science. You just need someone who gives a shit about their work.

Then again... That's just me.

This...Uhaul hitches are made by someone else and rebranded for their own sales. I believe it's Curtis but I'm not sure. I had one on my old Jimmy back in the day. Never gave me any troubles.

lol I've never had them install anything but had no problems just renting trailers. You should've seen how they pulled out the motorcycle trailer I rented though. It was just a couple days after a good snow so they took one of their vans, tied it to the trailer with straps, and just floored it till both van and trailer came out of the snow, with bonus burnout show and all. I was just

I had no problems with the hitch they put on my Jeep. However, I still hate them. Their customer service is str8 poopoo. I took one of there tow dollies to PA to pickup a car and the fender on the dolly broke. I called them and they were like can you go to auto zone and fix it yourself and we will pay you when you get back. Mind you I'm in the mountains of PA with no dam store around me and no tools. I had to latching it down with the wheel harnes and a windsheild wiper. Then they start harrassing me that I'm late getting the dolly back in time. I was ready to leave the damn thing on the side of the raod and go home but I really wanted the car. Long story short.......... FUCK U-HAUL
