That sucks. They are just breaking ground on the program which will lead to the replacement of the F/A-18. They are going after the things they didn't get out of the F-35, etc. It's slated for 2025. I hate thinking that far ahead lol.

Pretty remarkable that the vertical stabilizers are intact. Must've been fairly slow and flat impact.

Have sources confirmed yet that nobody was killed and nobody on the ground injured? I heard the pilot and NFO have some injuries, but nothing too serious considering a low altitude ejection.

Ok reading this pissed me off a bit:

Quote:
Update 3:31 PM EDT: The Virginian-Pilot points out another grim factoid about the Navy base in question today:

There have been more than 25 crashes involving Navy aircraft on or near the base over the past four decades.
First of all, it's a training base...there are going to be crashes. Part of the problem is that every major training base has been steadily encroached on by large residential/commercial ventures. Marines can't even run a full artillery exercise at Pendleton anymore because some people moved near the firing range and started whining about the noise. Well no sh*t, it's 120/155? HE, there's gonna be some noise.

25 crashes is 25 too many, but seriously, in 40 years, less than one crash a year on a training command, and that includes crashing on taxi and whatnot, which are pretty minor in the grand scheme of things....

Stupid writers, quit spouting prattle to try and incite the "oh my goodness how could this be?!" reaction from everyone.

On the radio feed I heard what sounded like a resident not being accounted for. Their vehicle is there, but no one knows where they are.

I've heard there's 6 who went to the hospital with minor injuries including the pilot. 3 that refused any medical attention

This is pretty funny:

Update 4:02 PM EDT The pilot's dazed apology of "I'm sorry for destroying your house" may be the craziest part of this whole disaster.

lol. +1

"I hate inconveniencing the local civilian population this early in the morning, but I love blowing up the desert!" was said by a well respected Gunny during a morning exercise that I was part of.

And for the pilots to realize a problem, convert to an action plan, dump fuel, drop speed as much as they did, and "belly land" that 60 foot aircraft into a courtyard........ hats off to those rocket jockeys man.

"Sorry about crashing into your house".....
