FBI moving out of DC - July 30, 2014, 01:41 PM

Either to Greenbelt MD, Landover MD, or Springfield VA
Economic impact being studied.

FBI Headquarters Leaving D.C. For Either Prince George’s or Fairfax counties « CBS DC

damn.....
all the cheap DC buildings made in the 1970s all look the same and are garbage...UDC campus, FBI and many more brutalist buildings.
Va can not take way more traffic added to 395/495.....

MD spots are logical since most the traffic is moving towards DC...

Article says Springfield, not Sterling. That would screw up traffic even more.

Springfield is prime because that location would be against traffic for the most part. The area has already exploded with the Ft Belvoir expansion and several other Gov Contractors setting up shop, and the infrastructure there has actually improved. It also sits along a metro and VRE station.

Big push for Springfield would be because GSA owns the warehouse there that is sitting unused.

That warehouse however is not exactly new itself and would need some major reno, or a total teardown to support offices. Parking and security there are prety good.

I know nothing about the other sites.

My money is on Greenbelt.
- Immediate access to both 495, the B/W Parkway, and Route 1.

- There is a terminus train station near the proposed site that both Metro & MARC use.

- The train station has immediate access to 495. It's one of the only metro stations with a dedicated entrance ramp on 95 that enters and exits the station.

- There is already a Federal Court House in Greenbelt 1/2 mile from the train station, and the Secret Service Training Facility is 3 miles away in Beltsville.

- BWI and DCA are both 20 minutes away. Boiling and Joint Base Andrews also, 20 minutes. College Park has a private airport that is 5 minutes away.

Finally, PG County is getting very vocal about supplying nearly 35-40% of the Federal workforce in this region, but receive none of the tax revenue as the workers all flow into DC and Virginia because PG only has things like an FDA satellite campus.

The bias is becoming a bit too glaring to overlook.

My money is on Springfield. No or little land acquisition necessary, and closest of the 3 to Quantico

Your points are valid and make good sense. Which is why the government wont build there.

Springfield same, I95/I495/Rt1/7100 Plus against most traffic

Same but VRE and Metro

Springfield metro has a stop off HOV, and is on 7100

There is already Gov owned property/infrastructure, DHS, Ft Belvoir, and its new extended campus. Plus FBI training grounds at Quantico

DCA is about 20 min from Springfield, Ft B has a private airstrip

That number seems high. Found this: says 25.7%
Will the FBI relocate its headquarters to Prince George’s County? - The Root DC Live - The Washington Post

Additionally Va has lost several federal locations as GSA consolidated its Va offices back in to DC.

And the largest collection of offices is suppose to be moving to the St Elizabeths campus in PG, but that project is 1.5B over budget and 11 years behind schedule.

All that being said, I dont think they will choose Springfield, as that location was/is a warehouse.

Not really....
if most of the work force is coming from MD and VA...to get to springfield they will be knee deep in the traffic...the only time traffic will get light is once they pass key DC entrants like 295 ...and thats the last exit b4 you enter VA via 495...same as if you were going to work down town DC...

If you are in VA and heading north...same traffic.
The only people who will not see traffic are people who live a few blocks away.

Metro wise...
Same heat of the moment loaded and crowded.
workers living in MD will not see the crowded trains..
