FDA campus lock down - November 20, 2014, 11:01 AM

Anyone know what's going on at the FDA campus in Silver Spring or have law enforcement connections that might? I'm out at lunch and can't go back due to a lock down.

Possible person with gun seen in parking lot. Apparently they were/are going room to room clearing one of the buildings.

Sounds likely that it was a misunderstanding or someone just not being too bright. I'm unlikely to find out the actual details but the official word is, "There was a security incident this morning involving an unauthorized weapon in a locked vehicle on the White Oak Campus of the FDA. As a precautionary measure, Federal Protective Services put the campus on partial lockdown for a short time until the situation was resolved. There have been no acts of violence and at no time were employees in imminent danger. A person of interest has been identified and is cooperating with law enforcement. We are continuing to investigate the incident. We appreciate that this is unsettling, but the safety of our employees is our top priority, and we are confident that this situation was resolved quickly. Normal building operations have now resumed."

Did I tell ya about the time I took a wrong turn in Langley VA and ended up at the CIA security gate with two scoped hunting rifles on the seat next to me in my truck?

Man... folks get damn touchy. LOL.

haha I had many run ins with the CIA police. I grew up there and went to HS at Langley.

Decades ago you use to be able to take the metro right thru the CIA. No gate or guards.

I once brought an empty .22LR brass casing into DC.

Man, I was living fast and wild during those days.

I work for FDA at the College Park campus and they sent word that a car running in the parking lot had a gun sitting on the passenger seat...so they locked the place down.

We got word as soon as it happend.
I wonder who and why ?

Is it illegal in MD to have your gun on the passenger side seat of your car? or only if the magazine is out or no bullets inside?

I think ill go ask around in a min.

Rifle, no.
Handgun, yes.
