Feds raid MM dispensaries in montana, the day after they stall a repeal - March 15, 2011, 12:14 PM

Link here: Live Blog: DEA Raids of Medical Marijuana in Montana » Montana NORML Blog

Essentially, Feds are ignoring Obama's order not to carry out raids of medical marijuana dispensaries. The DAY after Montana stalls the repeal, the raids happen. Coincidence?

Nope.

At some point, people are going to get tired of the .fed overstepping its bounds.

Wait a minute? I thought states were OK to set laws to sell marijuana for medical purposes.
What the hell were the Feds doing there?

What's going on here is the executive branch of the US government has no control over its various alphabet agencies. Proving once again that the federal government has gotten too large.

What is interesting is dispensaries in NOCAL actually pay Federal taxes. Maybe Montana didn't pay the piper.

Its interesting to see the federal government tax something they claim is immoral. ROFL.

They should place a .50cal in all dispensaries.

As soon as the fed storm troopers arrive, mow them all down..

Exactly! We were watching a special on it and this one grower was talking about how he paid something like $310K in Federal taxes the year before. Sharon said almost exactly what you said. These growers and dispensaries are a HUGE source of income at the county level though. I mean 10s of millions of dollars in revenue.

Belgrade raid: “They put my dispenser up against the wall and put her in handcuffs — scared the crap out of her.”

That sucks.

This is amazing to me too. The State and Federal revenue off of this has been realized in many states. I've said this before, but the benefits of legalization to:
- reduce incarceration costs for (non-violent) marajuana offenses
- increase state and even federal income from sales
- decrease significantly the Mexico/US border issues resulting from the traffiking of Marajuana accross the border by reducing the market for it, effectively rendering it a viable import and taxable
- unempowering a major staple of the illegal import trade that supports crossborder cartels

You're basically pulling the rug out from under the black market, . And while it doesn't disable the large market for Herion, Meth, or Coke, you are greatly reducing the scope of responsibility for the DEA to police. Last time I checked we were NOT winning the war on drugs concerning Mexico... at all!

How much did this operation cost in taxpayer dollars, and the time and energy of our DEA agents? What did it really accomplish? A statement on the power the DEA still controls to negatively impact a state level business forced to operate in what is now a definite gray area of the law while burning the resources of a federal agency, incite fear and distrust in our Federal system, and negatively impact American business during economic crisis.

I understand the arguments on both sides, and while I feel that both hold relevance and validity... I've just got to ask if there are bigger fish to fry right now than growers operating in state regulated gray areas.... really. I mean... if the head of the DEA wanted my two cents I'd point at Juarez and tell him to burn some of those dollars on our Texan borders.
