Colt is one of my daughter's ball pythons. Colt likes mice. A lot.

This.

I'm too much of a pansy to own a snake, but I like the idea of feeding live animals to my pet. So we got a beardie.

Not much to her 'strike'. Just chomp chomp chomp chomp chomp.

Another fun fact you can add to your sub text.
Pythons and other constrictor snakes, when they begin to swallow their prey they will always ingest the prey from the head forward position.
Through evolution they have learned to do this to prevent legs, arms, appendages from snagging and jamming inside mouth or esophagus during the constriction/swallowing and eventual digestion process.

BTW - Ball Python as a pet for a girl? Interesting.

Cool video.

When I first to moved to Florida I dated a girl who owned a couple of snakes and then later owned a rat snake myself. Would live feed them all the time.

Caught a Water Moccasin once down there and tried to keep it as a pet. It wouldn't eat so I let it go.

She is seven years old and has two ball pythons, the one in the video and a pastel morph.

Then there are the two king snakes - a high white California king, and a jet black Mexican king.

And a baby garter snake, caught in the garage and now living the high life. She's actually a blast and is the only one of our snakes to attempt biting us.

We have her Christmas present hidden in another room:

No, it's not a venomous coral snake, it's a harmless baby Pueblan Milk Snake.

FWIW I had absolutely no involvement in her choice of pets; I bought her a pony fer chrissake!

Red touching yellow, venomous fellow.
Red touching black, venom it lacks.

hahaha Awesome! In college for a video class, I did this exact same thing. We had to take a long segment of say 15 mins and chop it down to 3 mins with multiple angles. While editing I could see frame by frame of the strike. 0.02 sec was the time to strike

My neighborhood could use a couple of those, loose! It must be a long time between feedings- how long before you need to introduce another mouse?

Four or five days between feedings, though in early November both ball pythons went into a "winter fast" and refused to eat for four weeks. They were both active, drinking water, not losing weight, but just not eating.

When I got mine it was an imported one. It wouldn't eat for like 9 weeks, but did the same thing was still active and didn't lose any weight. Then he went to town!

Usually once they've passed the rat or whatever you can feed them again, otherwise they stop digesting the one in their body and go to the next!

I thought constrictors usually strike the face? Both times the mouse was struck in the middle of its body.
