Feeler: raffle items for a Veterans benefit. - March 20, 2013, 02:42 PM

I have a date confirmed for a benefit for IAVA. July 27th at the Electric Palm in Woodbridge. 4-5 hours of music from local cover and acoustic acts, each of whom has a combat vet or two as members. My metal band will not be playing, but I am playing bass with a new cover act that includes a USMC combat vet, myself, and two navy vets.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America

We will be doing a 50/50 raffle, as well as a traditional raffle with prizes. I would like input about ideas for companies I can approach about donating prizes. Additionally, we will be taking donations directly the day of the benefit. We're arranging to have an IAVA rep on hand to distribute literature and talk about their efforts to advocate for vets, as well as their various outreach programs, assisting vets with their VA claims, and their efforts to stem veteran suicide, or any of the other activities they're involved in.

They're A+ rated by charity watch, also, which is nice. A lot of the larger vet charities pay their CEOs a ton of money, and waste a lot of their incoming donations. IAVA does not do this.

So, I'd like to open this up for ideas. What kinds of places can I approach about raffle prizes? My wife will be donating a family photo shoot, for example.

Thanks, folks.
