The rider in the background who flipped off the road - he went through a barbed wire fence!

Barbed Wire Fence!

Wow that's pretty fucked up. Those guys are in one of the worlds hardest sports competing at the highest level and they get taken out by a camera car. Pretty amazing that they got back up and kept going.

I bet you the driver of that car will not see the Tour from behind the wheel again....

May even see it from behind bars.

The rider's team is considering pressing criminal charges and filing suit.

The only thing holding them back a bit is that they're one of the lesser teams who gets a wildcard invitational from the Tour's organizing body and they don't want to risk receiving any backlash from them.

Right now they have leverage. Guarantee you they get an invitation for the next 2 Tour's regardless of how they finish.

Bad deal for sure. Looks like the driver swerved to avoid hitting that tree. Can you imagine the carnage if he would have hit the tree instead? Amazing that shit doesn't happen more often, especially with the crazy spectators running into the road all day.

^^^ WTF! There is no criminal act there whatsoever other than stupidity and negligence. The roads are designated for private use. One of those uses is for the camera cars. They operated as designed by driving next to the cyclists when an idiot driver failed to see a God damn TREE coming up in front of him and planning a controlled avoidance accordingly. An accident in a private event happened. That's not criminal in the least. Civil yes, but not at all criminal. Meh, I'm sure we'll never hear about this again anyways. F'ed up though.

Well, negligence can be considered a criminal act, so can vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, failure to stop, traffic violation resulting in injury, etc etc... As are a litany of other charges any prosecutor wanting some major face time, due to the world stage, could bring up. Regardless of it being a private event on specifically designated roads, it has absolutely no bearing on a civil vs. criminal matter.
